You do realize, Old Dog, that the story of Dark Ages WAS were FASA was going with the timeline originally, don't you?

Do you have anything that might back up that statement?

I find it hard to believe that the story line I read is anywhere close to where FASA was going simply because it removes the nesessity to purchase some of the "older" available product (like the FMs and minis) as they wouldn't be needed in the "future" timeline.

According to some info put out over on CBT on this a lot of things in DA, like the the Blake War was already setup by FASA and picked up by WK. I guess you can take it on face value or ask Warner.

Greetings Programs,

While it may be true that FASA, (moment of silence), had intended this future, one would hope that they would have treated the die hard fan, (sounds of great rejoicing), a bit better.

This storyline that is being cooked up by Wizkids seems solely intended to back up the new game they wish to promote and has very little to do with human nuture or events and attitudes as expressed in the existing history.

Wizkids has handled this transition from CBT to MW:DA very badly and will, I hope, in time come to regret its callous treatment of us "old timers".

My wife is not by any means a gamer, she considers herself to be a long time "Battletech" widow. Yet I recently convinced her to read a little of the posted history of the IS and the game and then had her read the new history and new game intent as posted. She was flabergasted at the way that WK is expecting people to behave and has put me on notice that I may continue to purchase CBT items but under no circumstances will I be wasting money to "try" to get a mech in MW:DA.

When it comes down to it I guess it will be a massive case of each to his, or hers, own.

One last thing, after reading the bio on Stone on the wizkds/comstar site did anyone else get the feeling that they were reading the Arthur legend.

Thanks for everyones time.

(To Ruger, here)

This is sorta what they were working towards, I know. I knew the Civil War was planned, and I knew the WOrd of Blake Jihad was on the way, tho not to this scale or so effective.

Everything beyond this, with Devlin Stone and so forth, seems to have been added after this stage of development, by Stackpoole (Devlin has Stackpoole juice all over him) and possibly Weisman (if so ... ow)

I'm not sure where Battletech ends and Dar Ages begins. But I really can't put the two together. There's such an abrupt hurdle, here, that it's just bone-jarring. I can't tie them together in my head.

Like I said, there's some salvageable material here. Give e frm 3700 and up, and I can mold the WoB storyarc into how it should go. From there, the next 30 years can shape the IS in whatever way was needed. A big thing would be to sit down, and have a *serious* editorial walkthrough. A few notions:

Removal of ClanTech. Either the Clans are gone, or subsume their tech into the IS, whatever, but make only a single list of weapons, rather than two, cutting the number of things people need to know in half. No more "Ferro Fibrous is 14 critical, unless IS, at which time it is 7 crits" or the like. Just a hard number.

Next, find a tech level and nail it, hard. I, of course, prefer the 3025 era, but I know how hard it would be for the newer players to go back. So, I can make concessions on it, but I also want to keep things balanced. An Autocannon/10 has to remain a valid weapon in a world with ER PPCs and DHS. Currently, it isn't.

From there, dig in and hold your ground. Rely on three core books, to get a solid footing ... Battletech: The Rules of War, which is the rules on how to play the game, The Inner Sphere, which is a fluff book filled with nothing but setting, alliances, personalities, and so forth. Lastly, a Technical Readout ... ONE technical readout ... that trades quantity for quality. This book, turn into a normal bok format, rather than the 'widescreen edition', to give more room for detailing. Mechs can be given optional 'Color' rules, here, and get the Old School flavor back.

Stop Hotshotting! In professional wretsling, they know that the golden rule is to always leave people wanting more. So, you give a little, sometimes a lot, but you never completely satisfy them. Or, rather, that was the traditional rule. In the days of television rivalries, 'Hotshotting' came more and more into the picture, where things people wanted were done more often, sacrificing plotlines for instant gratification, while the push to have the next big thing be bigger than the last drove the performers into lts of injuries and cut careers short.

In Battletech, we got to many storylines all at once, too many novels, toomany sourcebooks, and so on. Profit spikes from a new release are more appealing than a long-term, reliable source of income, so people are tempted to constantly release new things, to get that spike. But, releasing so many all in a row cripples the previous release. Summer Movie Syndrome. By planning the releases better, spanning them out more, the income sources can be controlled better.

POtential, potential...

Stop it!! I don't want to hear about it!

So some superhero mounts some sort of a new Star League called the Inner Sphere Republic, and peace and democracy come to the Inner Sphere, as everybody hands over their 'Mechs and go home.

Not in a million years. Well, not exactly a million, but the mess of the IS would take a thousand years to resolve. To be more precise, it took Europe five centuries from the creation of nation states to realize they standed more to win by cooperation than by warring among themselves.

So if we pick as starting date the fall of the Star League circa 2750, you won't have peace in the Inner Sphere until 3250 or so.

I think peace would have been possible in 3025, out of exhaustion if anything else. But then lostech was recovered and the Clans only added fuel to the fire.

I think MWDA is such stinking horse manure I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.

I ain't planning on spending a dime on MW:DA. I like my BattleTech just the way it was, heck I am not too crazy about all the new stuff and storyline now though I do read it for something to do and to keep up.

I tend to "collect" the new stuff just cause it is BT and play with the old stuff cause I know how to use it. The new is nice to toy with now and then, but the old, well there is just a classic feel that I enjoy.

And even then, some places like the former Yugoslavian nations are still at war and have been for over 700 years, IIRC...

And don't even get me started on the middle east. *rolls eyes*
