I'm now busy to use the rules for large naval vessels to convert WW II ships.
Though i surely have to make concessions regarding several characteristics i try to represent different weapon systems.
Guns from flak to the big bore cannons are grouped to several battletech weapons already and instead of torpedo tubes i'm taking my Thunderbolt torpedoe version.
But there are still weaponsystems I've problems converting:

The U.P. batteries on british ships.
I will not bother with the wire/mine mechanism and think i'll just take an MRM-20 for it.

The Hedgehog on british and US ships.
As this is an anti submarine weapon i think of SRM-6 torpedoes or maybe a Mech Mortar with some sort of depth charge ammo.

The Depth Charge.
The Mech Mortar idea doesn't have the right feeling for this.
So maybe i'll introduce a new weapon:

Depth Charger Thrower
Weight: 5 tons
Itemslots: 2
Damage: 10/5
Range: 3 (no medium or long range)
Ammo: 2 per ton

What do you think?

What about using the snub nosed artillery canons as a base and make them shoot to target depth?

I didn't thought of artillery canons yet ...
More range and weight as i want to use but i'll think about it.

Well, the snub-nosed guns are short ranged and yet they have area attack capability, which could be good to have if you allow the subs to remain hidden.

The high itemslot "consumption" of the artillery cannons killed the idea. Depth charge thrower are mostly employed by smaller ships with a displacement of around 2000 to 4000 tons with only limited item space.
I think i'll try a selfintroduced weapon though i still have to figure out how it should operate in BT rules.

Item consumption?

Support vehicles have a limit of "items" they can mount and weapons use up an amount of "items" according to the number of slots they would occupy in a Mech. A Sniper artillery cannon (snub nose) would use up 10 "items".

Aww Sad

I didn't read support vehicle rules much. I thought that they'd work with rules similar to combat vehicles where it would take only one item.

I even have to use energy weapons for flak and smaller caliber cannons as AC's have too much slots. Smaller ships are a problem just as ships of 15.000 to 20.000 tons because i start taking artillery pieces for the main guns of heavy cruisers.

Regarding the depth charge thrower i'm thinking about a to hit procedure that resembles to some extent that of the real one.
But i've still difficulties with that.

Perhaps basic light guns could be also represented by magshots. Another idea for mines could be using M-pods.

In the moment i've following categories:
Light Flak 2,5 cm + (everything under that is ignored)
Heavy Flak/light medium artillery 7,5 cm +
Heavy medium artillery 13 cm +
Cruiser artillery 18 cm +
Heavy artillery 28 cm +
Heavy artillery 38 cm +
Heavy artillery 48 cm + (homegrown gun for some projects)

For another conversion thingy i already made the battlemech conversion of the Magshot with the medium recoilless rifle. I'll think about that.

I think that up to 150 mm could be Long Tom, but above that should be SAC...

As there is no way to incorporate 9 Long Toms into a 10.000 ton light cruiser i had to water it down to the following:
2,5 cm + = Medium laser
7,5 cm + = Large laser
13 cm + = PPC
18 cm + = Thumper artillery
28 cm + = Sniper artillery
38 cm + = Long Tom artillery
48 cm + = Gustav artillery (homegrown design)
