"Perhaps no nation took more damage from the Jihad than the Free Worlds League. Under normal circumstances, Thomas Marik's effective surrender to the Word of Blake and resignation from the throne would have meant that Isis Marik, his daughter, should have been immediately named to the head of what was left of the Free Worlds League. Instead, Isis was effectively disowned and exiled after her arranged marriage to Sun-Tzu Laio was dissolved; that she took sanctuary with Victor Davion and his camp was the final straw in the eyes of the average League member.
"With no seeming legitimate heir to the throne, League efforts to expel the Word of Blake were completely stalled. Instead, individual regions began to break away and claim independence. With the League seemingly crumbling before their eyes and several key planets either under Blakist control or staked out by the Solaris Protectorate, the remaining loyalist forces reorganized themselves under the command of the highest-ranked officer that could be located. Under the auspices of Commanding Admiral Adrian Drake, the de facto head of the Free Worlds League, the loyalists petitioned the Star League for help in removing the remaining Blakist presence from the realm.
"As a gesture of good will, and perhaps to change opinions about a rumored relationship between Victor and Isis, engineers from the Federated Suns provided the loyalists with the schematics for the RAC/2 and a reworked 3M Cicada. Although the design by itself means little from a tactical perspective, the sentiment behind it may well play a much bigger role."
