Overview:
The Fire Falcon is a popular Jade Falcon design that has spread throughout the
Clans, much to the shame of the Falcon Warriors who defended the exclusive
production rights to this BattleMech--and lost. Based upon the Jenner of the
late Star League era, this battlemech is fast, well-armed, and a fearsome foe
at short range. Although not quite as maneuverable as its ancestor, the Fire
Falcon carries even more firepower, much heavier armor, and is faster on the
ground.
Capabilities:
Massing 35 tons, the Fire Falcon uses a 315-rate extra-light fusion engine that
gives it a walking speed of 97.2 kilometers per hour and a running speed of
151.2 kph. This design uses endo-steel internal structure and has been provided
with six tons of ferro-fibrous armor protection, giving 96.63% of maximum armor
coverage on a 35-ton frame.
No jump jets were fitted to the design; while this may limit the BattleMech in
some cases, test pilots and design engineers believed that the additional
armor, ground speed, and weapons would more than outweigh the slight loss in
mobility.
To aid in its recon role, the Fire Falcon mounts an Active Probe in the
head--this unit is capable of detecting ambushes before they sprung and
provides an increase in sensor range. Primary amament consists of four ER
Medium Lasers, with two placed in each of the right and left arms. Much like
the ancient Jenner, the Fire Falcon forgoes lower arm and hand actuators and
can rotate its arms to fire into its own rear--giving this Light BattleMech an
outstanding ability to punish backstabbing dezgra warriors!
The final weapon is a Streak SRM-4 launcher fitted to the center torso, with a
ton of missiles for 25 shots. Eleven double strength heat sinks are fitted to
the design, which provides enough dissipation to handle all four ER Mediums and
heat generated from a full-on run, although if the Streak successfully locks-on
target excess overheat will be generated. The amount, however, is minor and
should be easily handled by any competent Clan Warrior.
Deployment:
Orignally, the Fire Falcon was exclusive to Clan Jade Falcon. However, in 3041,
the Fire Mandrills fought the Falcons in a Trial of Possession for the right to
produce this BattleMech. Believing that their own warriors were superior to the
Mandrills, the Falcons who took part in the Trial were shocked when their
opponents handily defeated them and secured the rights to the Fire Falcon. In
disgrace--all fifteen Falcon Warriors were reassigned to a Solahma unit and
sent to chase bandits on the outskirts of Clan space.
The Falcons immediately launched a second Trial to regain their exclusive
rights to the design--but that Trial turned into a grand melee with every
Mandrill Kindraa sent reinforcements to Kindraa Payne--the one which had
secured the schematics in the first place. In exchange, Payne gave the design
(and production rights) to every other Mandrill Kindraa.
Even as the Falcons were fighting a chaotic battle to regain the production
rights from Kindraa Payne, other Kindraas were busy trading with the Diamond
Sharks, Bears, and Wolves, each of whom received production rights in exchange
for vital resources and military supplies.
Halfway through the battle, the Falcon Khan realized the futility of the fight,
as the design was no longer exclusive--and never again would be thanks to the
fools who allowed Kindraa Payne to defeat them in the first place. He ordered
his forces to request Heigara and withdrew back to Ironhold.
Currently, the Fire Falcon is produced in eight factories across Clan space and
by no fewer than six Clans: Diamond Shark, Fire Mandrill (3), Ghost Bear,
Hell's Horses, Jade Falcon, and Wolf.
Variants:
Most manufacturers of the Fire Falcon produce the standard Fire Falcon Mod JF,
but the Horses and Wolves have developed their own variants.
The Hell's Horse's Mod HH Fire Falcon removed the Streak SRM-4 launcher and
ammo to add a fifth extended-range medium laser (center torso), a one-ton
targeting computer module (head), and two additional double-strength heat sinks
(for a total of 13). This fast-moving and hard-hitting BattleMech is an
exemplary example of Horse doctrine.
The Wolves also remove the Streak SRM-4 from their Mod W variant. But this
unit also decreases the armor protection by a half ton in order to allow for
the installation of an LRM-10 launcher in the center torso and two tons of
ammunition (one each in the right and left torsos). Weight limitations
precluded incorporating Artemis IV in the launcher itself. Nonetheless, this
variant does have a reach beyond the normal range of a Fire Falcon and ample
ammunition reserves.

Overview:
One of the very rare BattleMechs designed by the Fire Mandrills, the Howler is
based upon the prototype Star League Panther. Fifty percent faster, fifty
percent more jump capability, with fifty percent heavier firepower and greater
range, more armor, and additional anti-personnel weapons, the Howler forms a
vital part of many Kindraas toumens.
Capabilities:
This 35-ton BattleMech is relatively slow--with only the Blood Spirit Snapping
Turtle having less ground speed. The use of a 210-rate extra-light engine gives
the Howler a walking speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour and a running speed of
97.2 kph. Six jump jets give this fearsome BattleMech a jump distance of 180
meters.
Mandrill scientists incorporated endo-steel internal structure and five and
half tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating (88.23% of the maximum possible
protective coverage). The primary weapon is a right arm mounted ER PPC; despite
the use of such a heavy gun, the designers managed to keep full use of the hand
actuator. A Streak SRM-6 pack in the center torso backs up the ER PPC at
short-range, with 15 salvoes stored in the right torso. For anti-personnel
work, the Mandrills included a pair of AP Gauss Rifles in the left arm (20
shots each).
Twelve double-strength heat sinks alleviate some--but not all--of the heat
generated by this BattleMech, but excess overheat remains relatively low and is
only a factor if the Streak launcher successfully locks-on and fires.
Deployment:
To date, only the Cloud Cobras have won production--and the success that a
minor Warden Clan had over the Mandrills shocked all of the Crusader Kindraas.
Since then, when one Clan issues a batchall for the rights, a force from each
Kindraa meets it at the chosen Trial grounds. If the first Mandrill Kindraa is
defeated, a second immediately challenges the victor to a Trial of Refusal--if
the victor wins that Trial, a third Kindraa immediately issues a Trial of
Possession for the rights that the victor just won. And so on until either the
victor loses or neither side can continue to battle. This tactics have
aggravated some of the larger and more powerful Clans, but the Fire Mandrills
have since retained full rights to their own home-built Howler.
Variants:
The Cloud Cobras field the Howler Mod CC, which reduces the Streak SRM launcher
to a four-pack and drops one double-strength heat sink to fit a two-ton
targeting computer module in the right torso. They have also shared some of
their production of this model with their Adder and Scorpion allies.

I originally design these units using Solaris Skunkworks, but I can't post the datafiles because SSK isn't an option. So, since many of you have asked for them, I am going back and entering the data (but not the fluff) in Heavy Metal Pro, so I can add the files. It'll take me a few days, but have patience and you will have the files.
