So check and see if I can ping the router?


Someone over on another board is thinking that it could be a software problem aside from Norton's.

What does everyone else think?

Mordel posted the URL for your router. 192.168.1.1

Go to it. If clicking on the link doesn't work then copy and paste into your browser window. If it connects to the router, post that here. If it doesn't...well, post that here too. Laughing

Norton is not the issue, you can stop looking in that direction. Your firewall, if you use one, may still be the issue. But try to connect to your router first.

I just attempted what you guys told me, and I got back a message stating "unable to connect."

What does that mean?


Connecting my friend's laptop straight into the router worked, as he was able to get an internet connection. So that means the router is able to switch between wireless and normal.

Try the port your friend plugged into. If that doesn't work, you probably have a bad card unless a mouse chewed your cable. Smile Speaking of which, rule that out too by using a different cable if you have one. Then you can rule the cable out as well.

I just got off the phone with a tech support guy that I know.

As it turns out, it's a software problem: my computer isn't reading the DNS suffix.

He's going to come over tomorrow night and help me fix the problem; if we're lucky, then by this time tomorrow I should have normal access again.

Everything seems to have fixed itself; my guess is that I had some loose cables & wires and they got straightened back out when I moved some stuff off the computer desk in order to start dusting.
