Okay I was wondering if sonic weapons would work in the BT game/universe or is this too far fetched for the game/universe?

Well, what are we talking about here? Sonic weapons for disabling personnel? That could work.

If you mean something for breaking down non-living material, it would seem unlikely.

A more important question would be: Do you sit around and think of ways to become nerdier, or does it just come naturally?

I was thinking more along the idea that a sonic wave causing metal to become brittle or something like that, maybe ultrasonic or something would be a better name...

From what I understand, producing enough of a sonic shock to actually impact a mech wouldn't be anywheres near effecient.

Now, a sonic assault could be used against humans and as a means to defeat listen-kill missiles, but that's about it.

Ignore him Karagin, so far he has responded to 2 posts and both have been attacks.

Anyway to the topic at hand, As a infantry weapon I think it could be very effective, but as a vehicle, mech killer, not so much.

I agree with Stinger and Karagin on this one. All kinds of nasty things open up with the possibilty of sonic anti infantry weapons. Traps, vehicle mounted weapons, battle aromor mounted weapons.

What about a sonic missle warhead of sorts? damaging the crew of vehicles, but not hte vehicle, or someting along those lines? Would work against battle armor as well, vibrating/shaking the individual inside.

Not that I would be happy to see every sci-fi weapon available to be implemented to CBT, but these weapons would probably be researched sooner or later. The problem with CBT universe (and any other would be future) is that it was made a few years ago.

Unless the creators had the ability to predict coming technology development similar to that of Jules Verne, the technology will suddenly offer possibilities that weren't included or even considered for one reason or another. In cannon universe I would be happier if we stayed in laser/PPC/ballistic/missile area and left some hight tech toys alone (choosing carefully what should be added).

If you plan to make a Dune conversion, sonic tank is a must, but I would prefer the CBT to keep the character similar to 20th century warfare with legs

Aside from that sonic weapons may have some limitations that should be considered.

Obviously they need some kind of atmosphere to work and they may also require reconfiguration/modification to deal with different consistency of atmosphere (I don't know how much would this affect the transmission of vibrations).

If they are powerful enough to damage a 'Mech, then collateral damage should be considered. Being buried by an avalanche caused by your own weapons is not nice.

The energy requirements shouldn't be a problem with fusion reactor under your seat, but I'm not sure how bulky this toy would be, because you need to transmit a lot of energy, and you need to keep it moving toward the enemy.

Range would be short IMO. The noise would be audible, but the loss of destructible power may be significant.

Hey my last post was stone-cold serious, chump change. Is it your habit to slander all new people?

By the way most of your designs I've seen seem a bit subpar, to put it nicely. And that is not slander, because it is true.

I can imagine that in action. An SRM stops just before hitting the 'Mech, the warhead splits to reveal a powerful speakers which will unload a few songs from David Hasselhof. that may shake even the hardiest warrior. Well, too bad that the Ares conventions ban these horrible weapons

Well, maybe as a Narc or iNarc pods, but I think that vehicles and 'Mechs can be equipped with a device which will counter these vibrations with vibrations with opposite amplitude.

Another option would be in isolating the internal areas from the rest of construction. Vacuum, springs, ...

No, not all new people. Just ones who come in looking to troll for flames.

We have had a nice little organization for a long time with very little infighting. I do not wish to see this forum go the way of Waryammer a few years ago.

Topic at hand: Why do i get images of the 1980s-era Dune coming to my head?

As a serious reply, you could easily use existing weapons as sonic weapons. Design a new unit, with sonic weapons in fluff, but have them "count as" existing weapons, mostly likely energy based.

I believe you have misjudged me, my friend. I do not "troll for flames." That phrase is actually unfimilar to me, but i assume you mean I'm one of those people who insult people on the internet for fun. That is not the case. I just thought "Emperor" Karagin's post sounded, for lack of a better term, really nerdy. So I stated that. But you probably don't think I am really serious about BattleTech and all, so right now I'm going to design a top-notch mech just for you. However I'm going to have to name it after my friend Mr. Stinger, since your name is a bit too timid for a BattleMech. I'm calling it the Stinger Mark I. Look for it in about two hours.
