I found this quote in one of the TRO's on Solaris7.com and thought it would be cool to point it out.

The problem Earthwerks encountered came from the LCCC, thanks to Irian BattleMechs Unlimited-they had been pushing their TMP-3M Tempest as a replacement for the Thunderbolt for some time. Irian pressed the LCCC to stop Earthwerks from proceeding with their project. Lawsuits were being drafted to put an injunction on Earthwerks when Precentor Blaine stepped in and negotiated a settlement. A compromise was reached settling the dispute of which both sides approved. The prospective companies would have their 'Mechs battle in a test trial. The winner would get a lucrative contract with the Word of Blake. The Word of Blake received the first shipment of TDR-9Ms early in April of 3067, thanks to the efforts of Captain Mordel Blacknight in his stunning victory over Irian's Tempest.

There are several people who post here that have references in game material. That one is known.

I forget which strings I had to pull to get my name in there. Thought it was cool. I may have to enter one of those raffles/auctions to have my name appear in a BT book as well.

Yup, it's in Phoenix TRO. I keep watching TROs for such easter eggs since I bought 3067 TRO

Here was my take on the battle: (copied from an earlier post of mine)

Testing Grounds
Earthwerks Incorporated
Calloway VI, Free Worlds League
13 April 3066

The cockpit of the pristine Thunderbolt-9M in Bay 22 was a humid 30 degrees centigrade, yet Captain Mordel Blacknight was cool as a winter's night in Tharkard. He checked over his pre-start protocols one last time, and initiated the sixty five ton walking arsenal's startup sequence. The Magna 260 fusion engine roared to life under his command chair. Liquid coolant began to flow through his vest, which along with a pair of camo shorts was his only attire. A serene voice caught his attention through the built in mikes of his bulky neurohelmet. " Initiation sequence started.....password required." Blacknight replied "It's what you do, not what you say, If you're not part of the future, than get out of the way". Instantly all the weapon and secondary controls flashed to life on his console. Data poured in on every system function, and the RCA Instatrac Mark X Targeting and Tracking system lit up a bogie at 1000 meters. It was Identified as a Tempest-3M, which was no surprise to Blacknight. It, after all, was his only prey this day.

Deep within the bunker which housed the command center of Earthwerks Battlemech testing grounds, dozen of military men and techs awaited anxiously the results of the coming battle. Members of the Irian facility had arrived weeks ago preparing their company's flagship heavy mech, the Tempest, for this battle. The victor would walk away from this engagement with a lucrative contract from the Word of Blake. Irian's design team always had treated Earthwerks as a second rate company within the League and today was going to be no different. Their air of superiority hung heavily in the communications suite where the top brass and CEOs had gathered mere minutes ago. "This should be quick and painful" a gangly tech from Irian bluntly stated. "we've got them outgunned, out-teched, and out-tested. Solaris is giving them twenty to one odds to beat us." A silent figure had moved up along the boastful tech. His white flowing robe and long beard gave no mention to his rank. "Perhaps you think that the Word of Blake are gambling men, eh Tech?" All heads turned to see Precentor Blain's comment wipe the arrogance off the Tech's face. "Perhaps we shall not need the bookies of Solaris to make our decision for us!"

Blacknight revved the T-Bolt up to maximum speed. At sixty five KPH the new design still had the ride of a 3050 Caddillac. The testing ground provided all sorts of terrain, ranging from small hills and ravines with light tree cover to open expanses dotted with heavy bunkers tall enough to hide an Atlas. He had no plan to hide today however. His plan was to take it straight to this Irian mechjock. A dull tone rang as the Tempest came into extreme range at 750 meters. His T-Bolt's right arm shuddered as a football size nickel slug launched from his Light Gauss Rifle. The high velocity slug slammed into the Tempest's right leg, as it's own gauss slug fell short of Mordel and to the right. The Tempest changed it's vector, also moving at maximum speed, and headed for a maze of heavy reinforced ferrocrete bunkers. As he turned to the left the Tempest's pilot once again fired his rifle. Mordel juked his mech to the left but the slug caught him in the left breast. Armor plating crumpled as the slug buried itself deep into his chest. Without hesitation Mordel fired his Chilton Jump Jets, rising on a blast of superheated steam. With a landing 120 meters to his right as graceful as a cat he slapped his “B” Target Interlock Circut. His long range arsenal belched forth at the Tempest, Nine missiles slapping it across the chest and head and the Gauss slug smashing a dent into the left arm. The Tempest took cover behind a light building, licking it's wounds and taunting Blacknight to chase him into the short range maze where it's lasers and SRMs would have the advantage. "To hell with him" Mordel cursed and lit his Jump jets again. Landing squarely over the bunker he came toe to toe with the Irianian. He could almost see it's pilot smile as it unleashed an alpha strike onto his Thunderbolt. As the laser fire scorched over him and missiles peppered him he braced for the inevitable. The slug caught him square in the chest. Fighting to keep his balance he pulled his “A” TIC trigger. As a wave of unbearable heat washed over him as he saw his LRMs fly harmlessly over the Tempest. His trio of lasers however slashed across it's torso, followed by his gauss slug plunging deep into the gouge they had created. Sparks lit up and the Tempest jerked like a marionette in a child's hands. It's internal ammo bay cooked off it's contents rapidly, hurling fragments of myomer and endo steel 10 meters into the air. To his credit the pilot didn't punch out but instead rode his collapsing machine to the ground which ended in a earthshaking crash. As Blacknight headed back to Bay 22 the gathered dignitaries observing the devastation heard him say over his comm channel "That's why we don't use damn XL engines!"

No. That happened well before BattleCorps was ever launched! It's when I was playing BT with a bunch around here who were heavy into the playtesting.

What I truly loved about that little piece was how true to form it is to my fighting style. Anyone that goes to conventions or plays with me knows I love to get right up in your face and go toe-to-toe. Hiding prolongs the match.

And the line at the end was just great! I absolutely hate XL engines!

That style is exactly what a Thunderbolt is about too. Maximum brutality at minimum range.
