is it legal to upgrade heatsinks from single to double as a part of a refit? If not, where in BMR-R does it say no.

Is it legal to upgrade a IS Mech with single or double heat sinks to clan single or double heat sinks. Again if not where does it say that.

Or where does it say I can for that matter?

I think you can do a field re-fit from singles to doubles...in fact I'm almost certain of it.

I can't answer about IS to Clan because I dislike mixed tech and know very little about it.

I was thinking from a role playing stand point. Get some Clan salvage and upgrade your mech. That kind of thing.

But if you have a IS mech with singles, would you first have to convert them to doubles and then to Clan DHS or can you go directly from IS singles to Clan DHS?

Mixing of tech is allowed, BUT the becomes a LEVEL 3 mech and can not be used in any offical tournaments.

Refits can get any item that is there for the tech type.

IIRC MaxTech had the customization rules. But nothing's preventing you from swapping out the singles for doubles (aside from an incompotent tech). Just be sure you get the ones in the engine as well.

Again, I don't see why not. It's a matter of making the rolls, though. And in addition to having a good tech, a good supply of Clan Heat Sinks is also in order.

MaxTech, I believe.

You should be able to go from IS SHS directly to Clan DHS, as Clan DHS and Inner Sphere DHS are separate systems (2 crits vs. 3 crits each game-wise, fluff/fiction indicates different fluid).

Yes it is legal. It can be done as a field refit kit or at a repair facility.

Yes it is. Remember, the Level 2 rules and lower are used for Official Tournaments. So they couldn't be used in those. But for use in a home campaign or such yes. In Dragon Roars it gives you specific Inner Sphere OmniMech upgrades using Clan Technology. Weapons and iirc, heatsinks too. But that is part of a campaign and therefore a precedent has been set and makes it legal to use.

It is illegal to take a single heat sink and use it with a double heatsink and that is stated on page 138 in the BMR(r) under Double Heat Sinks 'Single and double heat sinks cannot be mixed in any unit. Vehicles cannot carry double heat sinks.'

Uhmm...mixing of tech was done long before the Dragon Roars, it was done in the Twycross Scenario pack.

True. But this was the first one that came to mind and showed a better working model in my opinion.

The replacment is fine, just the issue of critical spaces. I feel if you have to move the HS lcoation due to lack of crit spaces to add DHS.... it just became a longer and harder task.

Yes...thank you for that, by the way...

Oh, and you forgot to mention that you made us replace the entire engine of Jung's Wolverine-6M, Iman's Grand Dragon-1G and Luicci's Griffin-1N when we upgraded them to double heat sinks...
