------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Much like the Grand Dragon the Dire Panther is a attempt to make a long time
DCMS favorite the Panther a more formidible machine. Though still in the
design and planning phase the new Dire Panther is 25 tons heavier than its
parent and mounts a much larger electronics package. Critics of the design
state that at 6.6 million cbills it is just not cost effective and at this
time unnessary, especially when the PPC Capacitor is taken into account, a
very hard to find and even harder to repair item. Thoes in favor of the design
state that the capacitor is a item that allows the mech to deal the same
damage as the Clan ppc when it charges the weapon. When not charged it act as
a normal ppc, and gives the mech a flexibility that most ppc units dont have.
That and the heavier weapons load give the Dire Panther a reason to be feared.

==Capabilities:==
The Dire Panther is still on the drawing boards but appears to be nearing the
prototype stage as the team has finally aquired 4 old panther chassies for
refitting and inner structural reinforcement, before final modification.
Planned are a impressive electronics package, a C3 slave package as well as a
Guardian ECM suite will gove the Dire Panther a valuable role in the lance and
company scale battle. Weapon wise the old tried and true Lords Light PPC are
mounted in the right arm and the Lords Thunder PPC Capacitor are tied to the
same targeting computer that has made the original Panther so popular. 4
medium lasers are mounted 2 in the left arm and 1 in each side torse for close
in work, as well as a pair of Streak Srm 4 launchers.

It can be easily dropped to 50 tons. You'll have only 10.5 tons of armor, but you may improve the SRMs or add BAP/AMS. The firepower seems a little light for 60t mech.

EDIT: I overlooked the 2nd SRM, but still the firepower isn't great.

Level 3...

Sorry...

I HATE level 3 tech.

Its a personal thing, but I refuse to use the stuff. Its like alcohol...use it and it feels good, but when reality returns...your left wishing it hadn't..."man, this isn't even cool. I'd be kicking his $#% if I had my level3 stuff."

Ok then. All of the personal stuff aside.

I agree with SD a little light in the firepower for a 60 tonner. I do like the dual SRM-4's and ML, mirroring each other in the outer torsoes, and the 2 ML on the left arm. Goodbye blind spot.

Overall, scale of 1-5 I give it a 3. Thanks.

Hehehe only 1 piece of lvl 3 tech the PPC capacitor which is easily enough removed.

Okies reworked it a bit and lowered the weight. Lost 6% of armor coverage (not sure if I find that acceptable or not on a mech.) I could improve the weapons by removeing a c3 or something else but again that isnt the intent of the design. I figure its more of a medium raider or city fighter.

Oh and I also removed the ppc capacitor, Not sure I like the change but /shrug its not a big deal there.

Better.

Much better.

I'd be willing to use it...right next to its little brother.

"Surprise bozo! I don't go down quite so easily!"

Thank you. Though I still like the idea of charging up the ole ppc capacitor and letting the opening salvo fromt he ppc pack the same punch as the clan version

Looks nice, and you can always replace one of the lasers with capacitor. Why not ER PPC?

Heat profile. With the capacitor you have to charge it up for 1 round without firing it, to get it to do 15 points and 15 heat, if you use it in the inital salvo and then mabey a couple times during the battle you should be able to play the heat scale a bit better than with just the ERppc blasting away every round.

I usually create (or try) bracket fighters as it allows for either more weapons and electronics, and a more difficult machine to master.

Alpo (alpha) strikers are boring and unless the profile of the mech requires it should be avoided.
