Overview:
The Federated Commonwealth was devestated by the Clan invasion. Clan Jade Falcon cut out a large portion of the coreward worlds, smashing all put before it.

One of the reasons for the great success of the Clans against all of the Houses was the use of new armored infantry, the Elemental. This design so terrorized the Inner Sphere, that the first and principle reaction was to build mechs to counteract the Elemental threat. However, this was a waste of production, and most of the designs were fairly useless.

The solution, according to some of the best trained engineers in the Commonwealth, was not a new mech design. The solution was a new vehicle design. Something that could be made cheaper then the Clans, something that could do to Elementals what Elementals did to Mechs, overwhelm and tear them to shreads.

Capabilities:
The Rynn, named after its creator Ms. Rynn Liemfold, had to be able to take on and destroy an Elemental in one on one combat before the Elemental, or its Point, could reorganize and reengage the tank on its own terms. A very high order.

In order to do this, Rynn decided to look at what weapons were available. Many were considered, but all were eventually ruled out. Small weapons lacked the damage cababilities. However, one weapon had caught her eye, the ZeusBolt AC/2.

The ZeusBolt was a very simple design, and very open to modification. Rynn had a plan. Quickly calling together her design team she outlined what she liked to call a Super Machine Gun. For all intensive purposes, a sawed off AC/2.

Removing most of the barrel, much of the safety mechanisms, and then reducing the amount of powder on the shells, while changing the bullet heads led to the creation of the SMG. Able to inflict slightly more damage at only half the range of the AC/2, the gun also lost a lot of weight. Two of them would be placed on a turret for the gunner to fire from. The pilot would be below driving the tank into combat.

With 25 rounds for each gun, the vehicle was well armed. If the machine guns were taken off the computer and fired dangerously, they could take out an elemental in one turn. If not, they could still inflict massive amounts of damage from the safety of their longer range. The cheapness of the design also allowed them to be built in mass, for swarming tactics.

Overall Rynn hopes that this design will turn the tides against the Clans by removing one of their many advantages with a home grown, cheap and relieable Inner Sphere alternative.

Battle History:
In one notable engagment, a Rynn tank engaged a point of elementals without support. Its semi high speed had made one commander decide to use it as a scout, rather then the assualt mechs he had under his command.

Encountering the Point in a clear plain, the two tankers decided to fight rather then flee and wait for reinforcement. The Point issued a challange, eagerly accepted, and spread out to flank the tank.

The gunner decided to engage on the left flank first as the driver began moving erratically to avoid incoming SRMs. The high speed and nimble movment kept the Elementals guessing and slowly the Gunner was able to take out first one then another.

Finally there was one left and the driver came to a halt, the tank had taken some damage but was still active. The gunner aimed at the wounded but still active Elemental and opened fire. But nothing happened. He cleared the chamber and tried again. Nothing. He opened the ammo bin. Empty. He quickly informed the pilot. The Elemental, sensing that something was wrong with the tank, began to move forward.

The pilot thought quickly and suddenly shoved the gears down and shot towards the Elemental, which was still moving towards them. Just As the Elemental realized what they were trying to do, it was to late. The tank crashed into it and carried it back almost 90 meters before coming to a quick halt.

As the Elemental, its armor cracked and black ichor dripping out of it, struggled to maintain a hold with its claw the pilot popped the hatch and rolled out onto the burnt armor plating of his tank with a huge combat shotgun. Pumping a round into the chamber he shot the claw off of the Elementals arm. A well placed foot knocked the badly wounded Elemental onto the ground where it lay still. He leaped down on top of it, put the shotgun against the shattered face plate and fired a single solid shot.

Climbing back into his tank he drove off leaving the five dead Elementals for the Clans to find.

Variants:
A proposed variant being talked about in the NAIS would be the addition of a futuristic Reactive armor. This would counteract the tank capping SRMs that the Elementals use and would let the tank have even more of an advantage over the Elemental, including increasing their machine guns range of effectiveness.

Deployment:
Currently the tank is deployed with Federated Commonwealth forces on the Clan front. Negotiations have begun with the Draconis Combine to deploy them there as well, and ComStar has also shown some interest. Almost 300 of the tiny tanks have been deployed in the Arc Royal area, and have already engaged Elementals on raiding missions.
