A few days ago, I posed a question to Blackhand that I thought would work well on here. Making it a poll wouldnt work, theres too many factors, but I will still ask the question.
In your opinion. What is the best mech (any faction, any TRO) available and why? Conversely, what is the worst mech (again, any faction and TRO) and why?
This is just a friendly question, and is not meant to start any blood-fueds. Im sticking with TRO mechs, as there are several nonTRO mechs floating around (original Solaris 7, The Reaches). Just a quick answer and what appeals to you, or really torques you off about the mech.

Favorites:
Thunderbolt, Dragon, Stalker, Panther and Ubie  from IS
(I like various weapon systems on my mechs (sometimes even Albatross) and I'm a warrior from Kurita space)
Kit Fox, Turkina, Cauldron-Born, Nova Cat, Mad Dog from clan tech
Mechs not liked by the SD:
Grand Titan, Berserker, Hercules, War Dog, Anvil (I hate these mech for some unknown reason (not because they are in TRO 3055))
I almost forgot the HBK-5M (Only thing they forgot about is to install XL engine and more DHS when it's already over sinked, or remove the ammo with another SPL (rear facing) and make the AC one shot)

Hmm. Kinda tough. My absolute favorite should be pretty obvious, but there are many others I like almost as much.
Jenner, Phoenix Hawk, Shadow Hawk, Marauder, Thunderbolt, Summoner, Warhawk... the list goes on.

To narrow it down to mech per weight class, I'd have to say my favourites are the Panther, Lynx or Wolverine, Grasshopper, and the Awesome.
Least favourite I'm not really sure. There aren't really any mechs that I don't like.

My favorite mechs are the Awesome, Atlas (just because it looks ugly), Marauder,Marauder II,Griffon. there are others that I like. the one I really don't like is the urbie just way to slow for a light mech an atlas could out run it.

Well its had to say what the best is. As far as favorites go.
Devestator
Timberwolf
Stinger (love the looks of the stinger)
Battlemaster (oop version new version is fugly)
Masakari
Shadowhawk
Least favorite
What ever I am fighting at the time.

Favorite is the Pheonix Hawk
Least favorite is anything in the Assault class other than a Victor.

Favorites: Marauder, Warhammer, Awesome. because they can hit hard from a distance.
don't think I have a mech I do not like.

Favorites: Locust, Scorpion, Victor, Archer.
Most hated: 3025 Hussar, 3050 Hornet, and most clan mechs.

Most if not ALL of the 3025 medium mechs.
Their 3050 refits were less steller though.
Flashman, Marauder, Grasshopper, Dragon, Thunderbolt, Crusader, Warhammer, Rifleman.... Most 3025 heavies 
In fact i love all the 3025 designs.

I love the Raptor. Not the best mech out their but the two of us have a close relationship. Besides that, any LAM design as well.
The mech I hate the most is the Blood Asp. The best mech of my most hated Clan.  I can never get a definitive win against that thing. If I win one time, it's almost guranteed that I will lose the next time against that mech and vice versa. . . . Stupid Adders.

I've always had a soft spot for the Catapult, ever since I first saw one on the first mission of Mechwarrior 2 : Mercenaries. It just looked so cool in that game (though I was dissapointed by the pic in the TRO). Fav. varient....CPLT-C1, dunno why.
Least fav. 'Mech...hmm difficult choice, but I think I'll go with the Imp. It just looks silly. As a 100 Ton Assault 'Mech, it should be scary as hell...but it's not.

Hussars may not be the most effective mechs, but try to face them in greater numbers on big open map. You'll be in serious trouble if you don't have something to return fire (or if it isn't able to hit these fast pests)

Fav would be the Dervish or the Fafnir (std gauss varient)
Have no real hatred for any mech
