I'll go with the Mon Cal. It's quite a bit lighter than the ISD, with lighter firepower and fighter capacity. But its higher speed, with nearly the ISD's armor, give it a good chance. It's also much less expensive, so the Alliance can afford to build them. The qualitative superiority of Rebel pilots and starfighters will go a good distance towards balancing the ISD's numerical fighter edge, and the Mon Cal's fighters will also be more capable against the ISD than the ISD's fighters will be against the Mon Cal.

Aren't Corellian corvettes supposed to be fast? I don't know the actual speed differential, but I'd be trying to make them go 4/6 or 5/8.

i always thought so too. however, several scource including the one i converted listed it that slow. i kept them all inline by keeping it such. here is a perspective to compare it against. tie interceptor 8/12, x-wing 6/9, y-wing 5/8, a-wing 9/14, SSD 2/3 [impossible to make in at2], Trade Fed Battleships 1/2, Slave 1 8/12, Millenium Falcon 5/8.

edit: a thought just hit me. the falcon was modified with one of the fastest hyperdrives about. the discription on the corvette says that they are heavily moddifiable. one such modification may be the addition of better sub-light engines on blockade runners and pirate/smuggling vessels.

side note: the armor rates on both the Neb-B and Corvette are far bellow the conversion rate on the ISD and MC-80. it was low do to the slow speeds and low armor points per SI.

Ha. If you think killing Calamari cruisers was hard in TIE Fighter, you should try killing A-Wings in an Assault Gunboat. I'd be at it for a good few minutes. And than I'd have to do the other three or five or however many were with him. And doing it in a TIE Bomber is just painful.

At one point, I played the game with invulneribility and infinite ammo. I'd end up with mission times of an hour or more (more than two hours in one of the TIE Defender training missions), trying to kill everything.

i try not to use a Gunboat. Too slow. A Tie Fighter Advanced (used by Mr Vader himself) speed is even faster than an A-Wing.

But you don't always get your choice of fighters. I preferred the TIE Defender when I could get it. The Advanced was sad in comparison. And in that reddened screen you'd get before a mission, when you selected your warheads, the TA always looked like a certain bit of anatomy which is not mentioned in polite coversation. And that's what I've always called it. (So sue me. I was like 12, or thereabout.)

Now that you mention it. Does TIE Fighter play on a Windows XP computer? MechWarrior2 Mercenaries doesn't, but I don't know about TIE Fighter. So many games don't work in WinXP. Such a horrible thing of them to do.

Oh, so the fast ones are all modified. Maybe. Still seems strange for something that small to be that slow. It'd be lots of fun if HMA would let you make a ship which is more than 2,500,000 tons. I know it's against the rules, but it'd still be fun.

Are there any publications that give us the actual speeds of those ships? Seems to me that even the big Imperial ships move quite fast. It might be impossible to port them to AT2 rules.

The reason i keep a win98 rig.

Re: Tie on CP

Lucasarts is revamping a lot of their old games (I'm holding out for a revamp of Full Throttle, but I think I'll be waiting a long time).

I have the TIE Windows 95/98 version which has the X-Wing vs TIE fighter graphics (though nothing else has changed that I can tell).

XP can run it on compatability mode.

Are there any publications that give us the actual speeds of those ships? Seems to me that even the big Imperial ships move quite fast. It might be impossible to port them to AT2 rules.

Several of the old D6/D10 Star Wars RPGs made by West End Games listed the speeds.

As does the New Esstentinal Guide to Vehicles and ships...I think that is the title, mine is packed away. Also some of the Cross-section books that cover the vehicles and such from the movies list the speeds of the ships. Also you may want to check out the Star Wars web site (starwars.com) they might has something there that gives info on the vessels.

Here is a web site I found that might help all of us out:

http://www.merzo.net/index.html

One project I was working on was building the Republic SD of the Clone Wars...but that is still in the notes and idea stage right now.
