For that party I'm running, I just rolled up the NPC that will represent Lindon's Batallion when they negotiate with the players.

For the military academy life path, I got a 12; subsequent rolls gave him OCS (ranks into vehicle, plus ranks into custom) and cross-training. I picked Mechwarrior and Aerospace Pilot.

For the TOD: Merc path, I got the event roll which said "Salvage" and which gave him access to his own vehicle and the Owns trait.
Should I go ahead and give him a LAM? Or should I say that he has both a mech and an aero fighter?

I figured out yesterday how I can have some continuing adventures.

A few months before the party is hired, Laio sends an up-and-coming House Imarra officer to work with the Laio command there. During that period, she somehow developed ties to the now-renegade merc commander, ties which now prevent her from seeing the truth of the matter (I'm thinking that he saved her life during a previous incident, an incident that most people wouldn't know about such as, say, pulling her out of the street before she would have been hit by a car).

Unable to accept the facts, she's now operating under the premise that he was framed by his men; she also feels her CO to be partially responsible for it because she thinks he's going along with the frame-job for personal gain. As such, she sees it as her duty to remove an "unfit" commander from his post.

While all this is going on, the WoB faction within the FWL ranks is having similar issues with their command structure; specifically, they think that the merc commander was correct in his actions.

As a result of this, there's been a surprising level of blue-on-blue incidents involving Marik and Laio forces on recent patrols. When one of these incidents endangers some of Col. Lindon's troops, she (along with her DCMS and Comstar superiors) decide that it's time things get dealt with. Now.This forces the rival factions in the Laio and Marik forces to the front, leading to a near civil war.

Depending on how the characters handle their assigned missions (and how the behind-the-scenes stuff works), the shattered Laio forces will be thrown off the planet in shame as the populace rejects them and the Marik forces will be so shattered that they are unable to project themselves beyond their cities.

As far as I'd go with the whole LAM thing is a Wasp or Stinger with unreliable conversion actuators

Overall LAMs are not as strong as people think. They're extremely vulnerable to aerospace fighters.

LAMs are nice toys, but I'd go the Mech and AeroSpace route.

Thats just me though.
