This is pretty good work, although cutting up that unseen Rifleman must have been hard. As for the cockpit, I usually find that the best cockpit is simply black primer, drybrushed very lightly with whatever color you are painting the head (within reason, of course), and a good black wash. They wouldn't light up the cockpit with a "shoot here" sign.

Well Done!! I feel you pain when it comes to ruining a mech like that. I like the positioning of the mechs, the use of slight crest and the overall theme. I know these shots can't do it justice as "something" is always lost in the pixel degradation.
As for the cockpit, I usually use a combination light silver and black to give it that tinted look (as polarized cockpits shoud be). The problem with this combo of colors is that it takes a little while to get the right mixture. I have seen some modelers use a yellow to simulate a lit cockpit.

I love your paint jobs, wish i could get mine to look half that good. But I brush all mine on. I tend to use a flat black for my cockpits. don't know why but it tends to look better to my eyes.
