No, i dont mean Superchargers for 'mechs...

A turbo weighs in at 1/20th the vehicles weight. There are 2 components, the Air intake and the turbo itself. For rules purposes the Turbo takes up a total of 2 spaces.

The turbo adds 1 MP to the FLANK speed only. So if a tank has 4/6 mp, the turbo will put it up at 4/7. This is due to turbo-lag.

When the turbo is used (only if the vehicle hits the bonus MP) the vehicle makes an extar 2 heat points. This is to account for the engine getting really hot, really fast.

If a turbo is used for too long, the engine WILL overheat. At 3 turns of turbo movment roll a piloting skill roll. If fail the engine suffers a boom boom and blows up. At 4 turns, +1 Penalty. At 5 turns an extar +1, and so on.

Twin Turbo

Weighs 2x a turbo, but adds 1MP to the Cruising Speed, as wella s the Flank speed. So a 4/6 becomes 5/7 (you could just make it +1 MP to cruise, then recalculate).

Same rules apply to heat and blowing up.

Max Tech Acceleration Rules:
With a normal Turbo charger the vehicle needs to follow acceleration rules. With Twin turbo the acceleration rules do not apply to it.

Um....what you think?

Sounds good according to FASA, but IRL dosen't make that much sense. Forced induction (AKA turbo) is designed to shove more air onto the engine to cool it down more, allowing it to work harder.

Almost right, Ares. Turbocharging forces more air into the engine so that it has a higher volumetric efficiency (thus better combustion, hence more power).

Talen's idea is good if you consider Btech ICE's to be the piston type, but like Vampire I consider them to be the axial compressor type. You can't have a turbo on an axial compressor.

Well....so? I think they are piston. And if they are then I win! So eat it!

Heeheehee

I just came up with it in History, so there is no real backing to it!

ya you win.

only if turbo chargers arnt standard equipment on ice engines.

ever think of that?

You just need to get bigger hamsters for that vehicle....

Because a turbocharger is a compressor (usually the centrifugal type). So if you need to add a compressor . . . to a compressor . . . then your primary compressor probably isn't doing a very good job.

While agree that there should be something like you are suggesting the rules do allow the supercharger to be used from Max Tech on ICE engines, so that can be seen as form of a turbocharger...

NOS? Why NOS? If I were to strap NOS tanks to a 50 ton tank, nothing would happen except the engine exploding from working too hard trying to drive against the fact that its a 50 ton tank! NOS is good if there is somewhere for the power to go, but when the weight of a big-ass vehicle is factored in you get a problem...

AND things WOULD break. The engine would blow up (like a F-1 car), then the rest of the tank would go...and your drive shaft, gears, gear box, axles, treads, armor....

Hell, the camshaft would become a dangerous weapon.

also the heat from the burning fuel would radiate off the engine and would probably lite the tank (not to mention all the shrapnel from the engine as it breaks up)

Needless to say...a NOS powered tank would be a invitation for disaster, so I say hand it off to the Dracs...they drive Riced-out stuff anwyays.
