Well, for those who remember, I'm building my new computer. And all the parts are in finally. I'll be begining construction soon. Any tips on staying static free? I'd hate to fry something now.

Of course if you really want to do it safely have a store do it for you then they are responsible for all zaped parts.
If you want to do it yourself though buy a grounding strap. They aren't that expensive compared to a $200 motherboard.
Also take a power cable and snip off the two standard prongs so that only the grounding part is still there, be sure to cut all the metal away from the prongs though. Plug this into the computer and into the wall so the entire comp is grounded.

my computer teacher who's work on computers for 10 years taught me something really cheep and simple.
make sure your comp is unplugged.... that your not on carpet.... and on a static free survace [ie: kitchen counter]
then simply touch your case before touching a single part. then don't do anything that'll build up static.... if you do, touch the case again.
also, avoid sweats and sweat shirts.... anything known to power a small house hold.

So I guess having my cats help is out of the question.... 
I've found working on wood and a grounding strap work well, also have all of the Parts and tools close at hand. Keeps you from building up a charge while moving to get parts...

Buy a magic wand and a static bracelet.
They are wonderous little devices that only cost a couple of bucks and can save you a whole lot of touble!

Well, I have everything connected except some LED cables and I have a slight problem. I plugged it in to try and turn in on and see if it ran, but I hit the switch on the Power Supply and nothing happened. And I mean nothing. It didn't flicker or spark, the fan didn't move or anything, it was dead. Could it be that the supply is defective?
Or might I have forgotten something?

Trace the lines. Start at the Power supply to the motherboard. Make sure the Power LED and the Power switch are connected. Sometimes the motherboard requires the power circuit to be complete, before it will start.

Well when we zapped mother boards in my computer enginering class at least fans came on...
My guess is there's something wrong in your power supply, but that's just a guess.

ATX machines are not turned on from the PSU`s switch...Connect the System Power-On lead to the case power button and try it. Or, if your mobo is a recent model, try the 'KeyBoard Power On' (KBPO) function. On my system it`s CTRL-F1.
