I just pushed out a site update where I reworked how filtering/searching works. The new design is far more streamlined and user-friendly. The more important aspect for me is that I made the underlying code generic, so I can quickly and easily make updates and apply it elsewhere. As an example, for each field I want to add to the filter, it takes me about 15 minutes of time to implement and test. With the old code that same field would take me upwards of 4 hours and was error prone. I can also re-use the filter code for all my other listings with a minimal amount of effort (ahhhh... standardization is phenomenal!).
Anyways, I'm hoping folks go and give it a try. The BattleMech Units listing has been updated with this new code. Click the filter to search. I've added several additional columns including BV2, BV1, Cost, Rating, Source and Designer. You can add multiple fields to the filter. The filtering is also MUCH quicker as it does it via AJAX and re-renders the table instead of having to load everything with each click.
I plan on adding additional fields to the filter (really quick to do) as well as adding an "Advanced" filter option which will allow you power-users to really start flexing your muscles (e.g., mixed and/or conditions across fields, grouping fields, multiple selections per field, etc).
