The Kriger is a heavy MBT based upon a reinforced Jaeger. However, unlike the Jaeger, the Kriger's main focus is as a weapons carrier instead of a heavily armored medium tank. This resulted in the Kriger possessing roughly the same armor as the Jaeger but roughly twice the fire power. A higher horse power engine was installed but with the overall weight increase of the design resulted in an overall decrease in speed. Krigers are meant to supplement Jaeger forces by replace one Jaeger in each lance. Using the experiences of the Jaeger, the Kriger is produced in 3 base variants utilizing various levels of equipment and technical difficulty allowing for production to proceed despite regional supply variations.

Given the success of the Jagdjaerger assault gun tank hunters, when it was decided to design a heavy tank based upon the Jaeger, the Kriger, it was also decided to produce an assault gun variant from the beginning. The Jagdkriger like the Kriger is a heavy tank designed to supplement Jaeger forces with a heavy gun carrier. Like the Kriger multiple base variants (4) exist of the Jagdkriger in order to allow regional variation in supply.
