i suggested them as a rules referral for creating a set of rules. And while I like the idea, its mighty dangerous to be filling local space with an ever expanding cloud of impact hazards.

Honestly, a single Aegis with this modified round could effectively blockade a planet with a thick layer of hazardous debris. Shuttles and Aeros would be instantly shut down and only thickly armored Dropships could endure the strikes. Hell, you could even modify a screen launcher to fire micro-pellets or steel ball bearings (even micro-explosives) and say it does 30 damage to any unit in the hex at deployment and 20 damage to any unit that enters that hex thereafter. It would provide no to-hit mod but instead be more like the explosive NARC round of space, lol. You could refit or construct a few dropship with a bunch of these launchers and then make a high speed passes around Luthien or Hesperus filling their orbits with a curtain of pain. It would take decades for the pellets to orbital-decay and a very concentrated effort to use ships to sweep the skys clean.

Its like mining an enemy sea port on Earth with merchant ships or submarines.

The thing with the cloud id that it disperses. Either the gravitational field draw the mess in the atmospehre where it burns, or the particles disperse to non-dangerous concentration eventually speeding to outer space or toward the sun. That's why I suggested having the cloud stay for only one round.

oh i understand what you are saying. And you could rule it that way easily.

I'm suggesting a slightly different dynamic. Now that I think of it, i'd likely add the conventional minefield to-hit roll to my variant because of the immense space involved.

however, the dispersal dynamics involved are much longer lasting than 1 minute for the concept i'm talking about.

The higher the altitude, the longer the orbital debris will typically remain in Earth orbit. Debris left in orbits below 600 km normally fall back to Earth within several years. At altitudes of 800 km, the time for orbital decay is often measured in decades. Above 1,000 km, orbital debris will normally continue circling the Earth for a century or more. Return to Top

So a screen launcher deploying 7 to 8 tons of ball bearings/lbx pellets could create a very hazardous wall of debris around a planet or section of space for a good period of time. Coat those pellets in black, immersion absorbent paint and they would be hard to detect and avoid. Then if you deploy these in an area that is between 25 and 75 percent the distance to a planet from the jump point itself, you catch ships that are moving at VERY, VERY high speeds [ie. 0.5 to 1g burns for 6 days.).

AND that is using FASA Physics (StratOp High-Speed Engagements).

Yeah, these would last. I was working with flak grenades, that give the shrapnel a lot of energy allowing for fast dispersion, although an amount of debris accidentally remaining on orbit would be unavoidable, it would probably have no game effect and could be perhaps cleared away by dropships towing large electro-magnets to clear away various junk to keep approach coridors clear, or perhaps large desks of porous material meant to catch nonmagnetic particles.

hmmm, interesting dropship ideas.

Some based on WWII mine removal ideas. Actually having ship hull demagnetized or magnetized could also help to repel debris or demagnetized to fool mines or sensors is also a possibility.
