I can almost feel the rust setting in... my designigning skills need to be tested, so whoever has a need for a weirdness of my design, please come and challenge me!

Purpose
Capabilities
Faction
Tech era
Weight category
Special wishes

Any of those are opitional, but that leaves me with more possibilities to twist the design to something else.

I accept combat vehicles, fighters (both conventinal and aerospace) and 'Mechs (and of courese omni variants).

Purpose: Command 'Mech
Capabilities: Command, Control, Communications, with an emphasis on low cost and survivability as secondary concerns
Faction: Magistracy of Canopus (With export sales to Mercenaries, Minor IS Nobles, and other Periphery Realms)
Tech Era: ~3025, a smattering of 3050 tech if you wish
Weight Category: Medium or Heavy
Special Wishes: Given the female centric view prevalent in the Magistracy, it might be interesting to take care with the name, and see what you can link to it.

The Spearman has never reached the levels of popularity that the Porsche
concern hoped for. With the introduction of the CRB-27 Crab the Spearman lost
the market before it even managed to reach it. A testing run was produced for
the League, but the 'Mech has never made it past this stage. Some say that it
was a mistake, some say that it was just a waste of resources. Nobody will
ever know...

Porsche is back in military business Wink

I like it very much: inexpensive Mech with a well rounded weaponload and some serious armor. Well done Wink

Well, I don't have a pic, but I'd probably desribe it like a squat, hunched thing not completely unlike the Bushwacker with the MPLs slung under 'Mech's chin in a small turret (like the one on Mad Dog in MW4 intro). It would be quite short, some 9 m. (well, I still think that the 'Mechs are way too large for their weight).

Here is the level 1 variant. Upgrading it a little wouldn't be any problem if you wish... the name was the easiest part actually Very Happy It should be able to last for a while since it knows that it shouldn't get too close to fighting.

Code:
               BattleMech Technical Readout

Type/Model:    Boudica WHM-6BDC
Tech:          Inner Sphere / 3025

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
First of these AMC command 'Mechs were built from many times battered
Warhammer chassis that the AMC had no problem obtaining from FWLM military
scrapyards, most of them being the 6Ls that the FWL quartermasters had no
longer parts for and no desire to repair. The AMC extesively modified the
'Mech to produce a serviceable platform for their commanders

==Capabilities:==
The Boudica can't match the Warhammer for sheer firepower for long, but it
makes up for that in range and other capabilities. One of the huge Donall PPCs
is still located in 'Mechs right arm, but the left arm packs only a light,
smooth-bore AC. The gun can accept various specialized rounds, but mostly it
fires tracers that allow the commander to point on particular target from
relative safety without having to resort to any radio or other communication
suspectible to ECM disruption. Two moderate LRM racks round out the armament
and with their sizable ammo suply the commander can use various specialized
ammo loads to shape the battlefield more to his or her liking. Using flares,
smoke or thunder ammo where it's immediately needed lends the Boudica some
flexibility while making it somewhat less reliant on sometimes half-trained
militia. What was considered the greatest pride of the design however, has
proven as it's greatest failure. Magistracy scientists, much to their own
surprise, were able to replicate the fabled Tacticon B-2000 comuter and
install it on the 'Mech in 3037, but the replica was much bulkier and had
terrible problems with overheating in combat, which rendered it almost
useless. Most commanders either replaced it with working orginal when they had
the luck to get their hands on one, or installed standard communication units
when they were less lucky. Either way most of the refitted machines (more than
85% of all 'Mechs produced) have a torso mounted heat sink in place of the
computer.

That...is really interesting. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the design as a whole, but it meets all requirements, and is very unique. I like the feel of it. The idea of an AC/2 as a spotting weapon is...amusing, to say the least. And yet, I could see the logic behind it.

I guess a suggested variant for the MAF during the 3050s/60s would be adding DHS and ferro-fibrous. That gives three tons to play with, a touch more armor. That turns into 2 CASE systems and 2 MLAS. (Since the design is lacking in even token close range power.) Total upgrade cost is around half a million C-Bills, and makes the commander far more protected. It's a thought, anyway.

But...that design is interesting. I'll probably need to spring it on my players at some point. Maybe during a 'defend the commander' mission.

Edit: And if you had a different upgrade in mind, I'm curious to see it.
Edit, Edit: And the versions used by Mercs might be all over the place, so really, this thing could turn into a real grab bag of surprise on the field. UAC/5 anyone?

So, (after finally finding some time to play with the design and finding at least marginally working HMPro) variants you say... hmm... yes, I had something different in mind... quite different indeed.

For the Merc variant I present you with this:

The mercenary variant reflects their nature. Opting for a bit more direct approach the WHM-6MRC packs larger AC and smaller LRM load that shift the focus of the 'Mech a bit more to medium range. The heat-sink load is a bit smaller, making the 'Mech even more demanding on the pilot, but the armour was reinforced and there are finally some short range weapons. Four of the lost LRM launch tubes i eaach side torso were actually replaced with SRM acks that can be a rough surprice for anyone hoping to exploit the minimum ranges of 'Mech's other weapons.

Now to that 3055... a tough call, there are no ES WHM chassis around at the moment but the AMC has some limited resources available anyway...

Of the lvl 2 thingies available the AMC has following equipment:

Streak SRM-2
Pulse Lasers
Double Heat Sinks
Ferro-Fiborus Armour

First two don't fit with the design well, and I'd like to use only one of the remaining two. So How to make an improvemen (no I don't want to walk the easy path).

Calculated Factors:
Total Cost:        6 311 534 C-Bills
Battle Value 2:    1 342 (old BV = 1 033)
Cost per BV2:      4 703,08

Damage Factors:    SRDmg = 13;  MRDmg = 12;  LRDmg = 7
BattleForce2:      MP: 4,  Armor/Structure: 5/5
                   Damage PB/M/L: 2/2/2,  Overheat: 1

The 'Upgrade' packs full armour, that allows it to last a bit longer and replaces the AC/2 with an LRM-5 to save tonnage for more heat sinks and an Imported TAG laser. The range difference between the LRMs and the AC is minimal (with the return of artillery the advantage of the AC is significantly decreased) and the TAG can do a bit more sophisticated work than the old variant could only dream of. No close range fighting supported!

Now let's see what can we do with the Periphery 3065 tech.

ER large laser, FF armour and DHSs save some tonnage for upgrading the LRMs to 15 racks. Tha AC/2 also returns to spit some more goodies at the enemy and the TAG is also included. If you want toi keep the LRM-5 rack, or even Narc, you'll always have some place for an ER PPC and perhaps the CASE (finally Wink ).

Yes, there is a second project, not yet finally formed, but I'm aiming for a medium machine able to lead a medium lance or company. I don't even have a name yet, bu it will appear soon...
