About 10 minutes ago I got a call from a friend of mine.
A mutual acquaintance and regular member of my gaming group killed himself this past weekend. He apparently got a gun and shot himself either late Friday evening or sometime Saturday.

Based on the little bit of information I've gotten, I'm inclined to think that it was an accident.
He had valid reason to have a firearm due to the nature of the neighborhood he lived in, and he also had a number of long-term plans in place.

What is this? Death and gloom and....?
The best school friend of my best uni friend killed himself last month. It is shocking to witness that, even when far removed (both emotionally and physically). My condolances.

I've gotten some details in that make it seem like it may have been an accident.
He'd talked with a few people about going hunting, and the weapon in question was a shotgun; he'd just gotten his hunting permit literally a few hours before picking up the weapon.
Between this and some of the other details, I'm thinking that he was checking out / examining it when something happened and the gun went off.

The funeral will be on Saturday.
I've taken his character sheet, a brand new pack of six-siders, and a brand new thing of pencils and placed them in a black folder. Tomorrow, I'll be hitting one of the few local game shops to get a pre-made set of dice (preferrably ones that glow in the dark) and a BTech core manual if they have any left. A friend of mine will be bringing some sheets of paper.
This way, he's ready to go once he hooks up with Gygax and Jackson.

Just got back from the viewing; definitely an accident and not anything deliberate.
I'll be going to the funeral services tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I can make the actual burial. It looks like my car is having starter trouble, and with the funeral itself to take place in the next town I'd be SOL if my starter died on me.
