Yeah - the doctors are indeed treating it like a bleeding ulcer.
I know from personal experience that when people with bleeding ulcers are first allowed food they can only have liquids for 24 - 72 hours after the final endoscopy / treatment. He won't be allowed anything solid until after that period, although I am a little surprised to see the doctors say that he can order anything he wants off of the given menu.

The given menu was the "Full Liquid" menu. The most solid thing was strained cream of chicken soup. 
Much better now, though.
