This design is one that I use a lot of. In the games I play down here in Mississippi, several players and I teamed up and formed a merc unit to fight others with. Currently, we have six of these 'Mechs (or at least the minatures for the them). We deploy them in three lances in our heavy company, teamed up with Archers, Thunderbolts, and Catapults for long-range support. Anyway, let me know what you think of the Stalker Four-Echo.

Formed in 2985, the Numenorean Guards Regimental Combat Team was a mercenary outfit based on the world of Numenor in the Federated Suns. Intended to serve as a local defense regiment, Colonel Adam Broome instead invested the majority of his family's wealth, along with that of four other prominent families.

Outfitted with 'Mechs, aerospace fighters, tanks, and infantry, the Numenorean Guards served House Davion for the first twenty years of their existence. Beginning in 3015, the Guards began service with House Marik. While in service with Marik, they acquired six STK-3F Stalker class BattleMechs. Desiring a heavy close combat 'Mech to provide heavy punch, Colonel Timothy Broome (son of Adam) had the six Stalker's modified by Irian BattleMechs, Unlimited. All missile racks and ammunition were removed, two tons of armor and five additional heat sinks were added to the chassis, and arnament was increased by one large laser and eight medium lasers (four of which are mounted to fire to the rear).

The end result was a devasting 'Mech designed for short and medium range combat. A MechWarrior piloting the STK-4E can fire all three large lasers and walk without heat buildup, or all eight forward mounted medium lasers and walk, still without any heat buildup. An Alpha strike will shut the machine down, but there is no ammo to explode. With four medium lasers mounted to cover the rear arc, the pilot need not fear 'Mechs jumping behind it quite so much.

Irian BattleMechs retained the design on file and can produce 'Mechs of this model today, though they do not have any in regular production.

Sure it's deadly, but I would be careful with such designs... they may become boring to play...

Laser Boat. That is OK but why LL and not PPC? You have ML out the ass to cover short range. Go with two PPC and LL as an idea. Or one PPC and 3 LL, drop some ML.

The 4 rear ML are true to form. This is a big blob. Hard to see it turning to fire. 4 ML even make a Wraith or bigger medium Mech think about getting to close from behind.

AWAD- I am blind from the light that bad boy would produce

It is a tradeoff, AWAD.

In the current configuration, you can fire all forward medium lasers and walk, or fire all large lasers and walk, without heat buildup.

You can reconfigure the design to mount multiple PPCs, but then you just have a slightly larger, more robust Awesome. Mixed PPC and LL battery vastly increases heat buildup. For example, you could go with two PPC and two LL and no medium lasers, and 28 heat sinks. But this design could not fire everything without building up 8 heat (9 if you walked). Maximum damage output would be 20 at 16-18 and 36 at all other ranges, compared to 24 at 10-15 and 40 at 1-9 (plus 20 at 1-9 rear). WITHOUT HEAT BUILDUP. If you perform an Alpha Strike with all forward firing weapons and walk, you are at 24 heat, and can inflict 64 points of damage (84 points of damage with 36 heat if you also fire the rear mount lasers).

What I wanted to design was a 'Mech for medium and short range combat, that relies upon its lance-mates for supporting fire as it close the distance. Now while I don't think the design is "boring", it is very consistent. And in the games where my group has put this thing on the table, it draws fire from everywhere. NO ONE wants to get within 6 hexes of it, front or back. And in doing so, with its heavy armor, and lack of ammunition to explode, absorbs damage that could destroy one or more of my other 'Mechs.

It might be a niche design, but it poses a threat on the table that simply must be honored, giving its lance-mates an opportunity to engage the enemy while the enemy is engaging the STK-4F.

Thanks for your comments.
