The Real Madrid Football Club has won the Cup of Europe for the 9th time in the year of the 100th anniversary of its foundation, defeating the Bayer Leverkussen 2 to 1 with goals of Raul and Zidane, being the team with more victories on the story of the competition ...and still counting.
What a match...the decisive goal (2-1)scored by striker Zidane was beautiful.. he couldn't have hoped for more, after losing two other finals with other teams, winning at long last the Cup, and being the author of the victory goal
And then there was the agony and suffering of the frenzied last minutes. The other hero of the match was youthful Casillas, that replaced Cesar as the goalkeeper of the Real Madrid when the former left the field injured. Stopping three shots that were on the verge of scoring goal in the last minute, including a head shot by the goalkeeper of the Bayer!! Had he scored, CocaCola would have hired him for their famous spot that features a goalkeeper doing the same. Reality imitates fiction...
The agony, the anguish, the suffering is undescribable, and then ...the ectasy of
triumph!!!
There's nothing like it. The adrenaline rush of matches like this is what makes worthwile watching football...

Correction. Zizou is an attacking midfielder, not a striker.
But he is the best player in the world. No one else comes close.
But it might be interesting to note that he has never won the European Cup before this, and he moved to Real Madrid solely to get this one trophy missing from his cabinet.
And the fact that Real Madrid sold some land to their government for an absurd amount of taxpayer money to get out of their massive debt makes the victory tainted in the eyes of many football fans.
No secret, really, that the club is basically financed by the government. An old tradition stemming from Franco.
Yes, I'm bitter. Is it obvious?:p
Bayer should have won, dammit!
