Well, I've run my first battle with my new Trick Lance (the 4 GZT designs gifted to my merc unit).
I must say I am impressed. Especially with the weapon loads. They are well balanced, and while only the Valiant can perform an Alpha Strike w/out heat... they are all well balanced. I've read the reviews of the mechs on the Solaris7 armory where Fang has them listed, and one suggests mounting 2 of the Hidalgo's MedLas to the rear, due to it being a quad. Well... I don't think I'll modify mine that way. Not after its performance in this fight. The weapons load is so close to perfectly balanced that if I don't fire either PPC I can fire all 4 MedLas and the LargLas and run... no heat effects. And since it moved fairly fast, I only once had a mech in my rear arc, and I simply covered him with lance mates and took the damage. The Scimitars performed pretty good, though I wish they had full jump. I don't see a way to do it w/out detriment to the overall performance of the design though. Again a nice mix of weapons, and the ability to fire different combinations of weapons to manage heat and still shovel out good damage. Lastly we come to the Valiant... awesome little bugger. Even the hatchet is nice. It has enough other weaponry, and sweet speed, that the hatchet isn't a detriment to ranged combat at all. And with that super speed enhanced by MASC, she can get in close and rip mechs backs apart with her 3 ERML and Hatchet. I like how this lance performed. I'm very happy with the mechs, and I think Fang did and excellent job with them.
Below is highlights of the battle, played via MegaMek against my friend Mitch.
Terrain: Surprise - Ended up being a heavily forested map so everything was almost always close range with high to-hits. Played with double blind.
Several fires were started, and a lot of smoke drifted all over (using MaxTech fire & smoke rules). This made hitting even harder, but the double blind had a lot more effect too.

Of significant note is that the Valiant went toe to toe with the Viper for 4 rounds, and dished out the best in that exchange by keeping behind it.

Well, it seems the designs could have done better. Somehow MegaMek glitched out on the Valiant and used the one that comes with MegaMek despite me picking the GZT one off the list. Oddness. Oh well, OOPS  Shows how awake I was playing this at 3am... and since I still won I guess it shows how good those designs are.
Especially since Valiant I used was only 30 tonner, and the one I was supposed to be using is a 65 tonner LOL.
