A long-range support 'mech, along the lines of the Clint. Fast enough to get to trouble spots on the field, enough armor to survive the potshots that come through the front ranks, and firepower heavy enough to be a threat even to assault 'mechs (given enough time).

For it's size it's quite nasty. UAC and PPC can do a lot of damage and thanks to standard components it may last for a while. The speed doesn't suffer that much.

I toyed with your concept a little and this is what I got after shifting to 3067 technology.

I like the old Star League flavor of this one: A bit high tech here and there but also standard weapons like a PPC even though it would have the heatsinks to mount a ER-PPC.
But such a modification would be "unstylish"!

Solid 2nd-line machine...its a bit slow though. After all, there are a lot of heavies out there that can pace it. Still, this would be useful as cheap fire support.

The armor placement is a bit odd to me too. I'd put some more on the center torso.

That's the tradeoff for being so small/cheap. It's faster than the Enforcer, its' nearest cousin, and is more heavily armed than its' next closest, the Clint. It could be faster, or have jump capability, but that would require either a heavier chassis or a very expensive XL Engine.

Mabey a light engine, but not the xl.

As an old Star League 2nd line mech just keep the standard engine.
But as a 3067 refit/production-model a light would be fine!

You don´t hesitate for long if somebody gives you a pretense to construct a mech (or two), do you?

I didn't even see it as a SLDF design, but now that I look more closely, that makes a lot of sense. Although the SLDF had plenty of fast heavies (Lancelot, Flashman, Exterminator, Bombardier, Champion), with the exception of the Flashman they're not particularly hard-hitting or thick-skinned. They seem to fit more into the Dragon-Quickdraw mold rather than the T-bolt/Orion mold.
