I was just curious as to who has thier own units, if they are mercs, house, clan or otherwise, what the unit is called, if their is a story behind it, that sort of thing.

Heres mine:

Name: 88th Irish Brigade (named for the 88th New York, a Civil War unit)
Affiliation: Merc
Composition: 2 Companies of Mechs 1 Company of Tanks/Infantry 2 Aerospace fighters
Tech level: 3025 with some 3050

The guys that I play with desided that we need to start a new campain but we didn't have the time to create new units from scratch so we took the mechs and such from our old campains, threw them in a pile and drew at random. My unit came out a bit heavier than I like but generally pretty good.

Name: Blue Lightning
Affiliation: Merc
Composition: 1 Company of Mechs, 1 Lance of Vehicles, 6 Aerospace Fighters (lucky rolling ) and 2 Dropships, Union and Overlord (more lucky rolling, will probably sell the Union for more units), and a Merchant Class Jumpship.
Tech level: Playing in Year 3058 but the unit is mixed of 3025-3055, with 1 Clan mech and a few clan weapons.

I am actually the GM here, but this is the Unit of my players.
The JumpShip was brought into the unit when they absorbed another unit that had been completely shattered, they own it, it isnt just affiliated with them. The Union is an Upgraded, and the Overlord is the old version. Also the Union has been modded to hold the entire unit (14 mechs at start of campaign, but now 10 operational mechs and 2 operational vehicles. It only holds the normal complement of fighters however). Thoughts here would be nice, which dropship should they keep, which should they sell?

This is the story of their first mission (against Clan Smoke Jaguar)

Name: Knights of Chaos

Unit: 2 companies Mech's, One Company Mixed Vehicles (very similar to the second unit I posted in Old dogs challenge) 2 lances of miscellaneous vehicles and. 1 Fortress (owned with the Long tom removed to make room for more supplies), 1 Triumph (Salvaged and slowly being refitted It will be the commands drops ship), 1 Hercules (Part owner of the company, Refitted with minor repair facilities.)

Ironically the Triumph was seized after our employer had broken our contract and pulled our Liaisons (sp) and the Drop ship lent to us, they left the planet when the planet was invaded. We captured the Triumph (with some damage) and eventually through Guerrilla fighting drove the invaders back home. After the Mercenary review board heard our case and settled in our favor (quite a hefty sum) we started refitting the unit.

Currently most of the unit is using Leased mechs ( a practice we use heavily in our games) with only a handful being owned. The Vehicle company was added recently when we absorbed a mostly shattered merc company they owned (leased) the Hercules Drop ship.

**slightly overkill I know but we got really really lucky on a few of our rolls. the GM has tried on a coupleoccasions to "change" our current set up but each and every time we get a roll or 2 that saves us**

I briefly had a merc unit called the Samurai Headhunters when I was playing heavily in college. (due to my luck in getting head shots)

Well, when I first started playing as GM about 2 years ago the players then had a Merc unit called The White Devils, which ended up being a regiment in size and took playing 3 seperate games at once to handle. Plus 2 companies of armor, one lance of which was a lance of 2 Zhukovs and 2 Demolishers and was called the headhunters cause the Zhukovs got a lot of heat shots. I had to get 2 other people to help me run the games at this time. No PC unit has ever gotten this big around me before or since. It was a learning experience for me, but too complicated and time consuming.

The Chaos Dragoons

I'm putting together a combined arms bandit regiment. Right now I've got a heavy battalion of 'mechs (meaning the average tonnage is heavy, although mediums and lights are sprinkled in fairly liberally), a company of Hetzer Assault vehicles, and several companies of infantry. The unit itself is made up of several different semi-independent sub-commands (usually of approximately company size). Most of these sub-commands are different former house or mercenary units which have deserted for varioius reasons, and now operate in the Periphery. The unit symbol is the chaos symbol invented by Michael Moorcock (and later ripped off by GW), a series of arrows radiating from a central point, representing the essence of chaos.

My unit is the Heavy Horse Merc Brigade.

I run just over two Mech Battalions, an Infantry Battalion, and more...

It's really too big to be true Merc anymore, so, we're primarily contracted to the Star League now. I haven't played them too much in the longest time now, but still do the odd duel or so in training.

Check out the website for more... and sorry, I haven't had a lot of time to update it in a while

Alexander

Harewood's Harvesters, a merc unit, later a partial RCT, now just a memory really.

Techinically, I only ever commanded a single battalion, but in reality, I was also the defacto leader of the unit. We got bigger to the point where we became a house unit out of necessity (though being heavily in debt helped), then finally just disbanded to shore up the AFFS units in need. I am in flux right now. I pine for a place in the Davion Light Guards, but unless I can become a Mechwarrior again and prove myself, I doubt it will happen.

Harper's Hunters, mercenaries, Dragoon's Rating C.

Jake Harper commands the ground units while his sister Jill commands the air assets. As of yet they've only done some garrison duty and pirate hunting, but they're effective. Alec Epper's company did so well on the last job that they're called Epper's Exterminators now. Dead pirates littered the beaches in droves, literally.

The unit consists of two full mech companies + a command lance. Every lance is an air lance, ie has an attached lance of fighters. Only four mechs are heavier than 55 tons, but the fighters are mainly heavies to make them worth something. There's also a company of fast hovertanks, Maxims and Saracens. Six infantry platoons (4 SRM, 2 MG) and two BA squads. The unit also managed to scrape up two old Union dropships, which means they're screwed when it comes to transport.

Infantry is used as guards and/or ambush units. The mechs do the fighting with air support, and the hovertanks act as cavalry.

Baker's Dozen, a hardluck unit of 13 mechs billed as a 'Short Battalion' ... has an Assault Lance (One pilot's Charger that's currently missing two small lasers and has a gimpy knee), and a 'Batallion Command' ... Which is also one mech.

Charlie Baker's basicly retired at this point, and his daughter, Delta, has taken over, with Charlie mainly doing paperwork, now, and serving as (I'll never spell this correctly) consigliari to her field commander.

The unit's beaten up, but manages to stay alive, at the least. Operates under the Liao banner for now, but has fought under the Magistry of Canopus before as well.

One dropship, with teh aircraft bays gutted to get one more mech in there, and no aerospace assets.

Pretty much your most generic company, ever.
