Ok, I have a two questions that have got me stumped, and if you guys could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

1. What is a myomer muscle? How do they work, and what are they made out of?

2. If you take away the shoulder actuatior, you cannot have upper/lower arm or hand actuators. Wouldn't a mech not be able to mount weapons in the arms because the arm for them to mount dosent exist?

1=Myomer...Basically this is a alloy that contracts when a certain voltage of elecrity is sent through it. I am not sure if the material actually exists in our world, but it does there. This stuff basically acts like muscle in that when it contracts it pulls a few pieces of whatever together. When it relaxes, the same pieces than spred out again.

2=You are right. And per rules in either MaxCheese or something else you can construct a 'mech without arms. There are benefits and problems with it, most noticeable is the fact that any shot hitting the arms misses, but getting up after a fall is a bitch.

Hope that helped...anyone else want to add something i missed or got totally wrong?

Thanks for the ansewers, that about covers it though. One point though: I just booted up Mech2 again, and an example came to mind. Anyone remember the Rifleman mech? I wonder if you could mount arm weapons like that. It had no arms or shoulders, but four rods that contained large pulse lasers. BTW, most all mechs in Mech2 have no "hands" (I can't think of one that did), just weapon pods at the end of their arms. Is this a "hand?" I can't really see any use for it in terms of utility (getting up after a fall, ect.)

Rifleman lacked lower arm and hand actuators, and could therefore flip its arms as per rules.

Most 'mechs in MW2 didnt have hands cause they were clan omni-mechs. Most Omni's dont mount hands due to the pod structure. A few that DID have hands were the Atlas and maybe the Blackhawk depending on the version you were playing.

No, they're not hands. By the rules, no mech is supposed to mount a hand actuator in the same arm as an AC, PPC, or Guass rifle (although there is the occasional violation, such as the Thug). It's more artistic than anything else. However, it shouldn't be too hard visually to kinda 'graft' hands onto the side of a barrel

Ok, back to that topic. How does an omnimech work? I know per MW4 that you've got ballistic, laser, missile, and omni hardpoints. Are omnimechs just all omni hardpoints or something, because when making them in MW2 or The Drawing Board the whole hardpoint thing is kinda tossed out the window.

*Sigh*

1)Kraken-That rule is only in effect to Omni-mechs. To IS 'mechs or 2nd line clan mechs it makes no difference...

2)MW4's Mechlab was a bunch of BS that the designers tried to make things more interesting. In REAL battletech 'mechs dont have hardpoints. They have places where the weapon is installed during construction. Re-fits are costly and take time.

An omnimech is a mech built with a lot of open space and some bolt holes. They slap a weapon in and bolt it on.

So, yes, in a way the omni-mechs have just a bunch of Omni crits waiting to be filled. Byt again, the MW4 system was total BS and I think it needs to go to hell.

Ok, thanks a lot for clearing that up. IMO, MW4 was designed ground-up as a multiplayer game. Unlike MW2, the single player missions sucked but multiplayer play in MW4 is quite fun. I suppose they did it to make multiplayer play easier, as variants are a big issue there.

Not quite...the game's story has already been totally denounced by anyone with an IQ level high enough to count to 10. Several other clan 'mechs made it into MW4 as well, even though nobody in the FC has the ability to makle them. The game is just whack...no getting around it.

The games themselves are fun, from what I've heard. But Microsoft is under no obligation to stay with FASA's storyline, so if you look at it from a fluff perspective no Btech fan would be satisfied with the game.
