Has there been any violence related to this yet? Remember that Religion is the leading cause of death in the world.

No, actually it isn't.

If you count all the people that have died as a result of religion I bet that it will easily overtake anything else you can think of. Heck, the Bible is one of the most violent books you can read. Rape, pillage, torture, seducing your father, intolerance, thousands dead by wars, many killed for worshiping the wrong god. Even Moses was a murderer. Such a peaceful story.

Personaly I see most religions as political powers more than anything else. I have just as much authority as the pope (or Jesus, take your pick) does. Just less people follow my directions.

Hi AQ,

As i am usually not interested in sports, i didnt even know about your hockey boards at fanhome.com.

*sigh* I'm not even going to get into this. I can see myself getting modded again all too clearly.

Just some advice Ares, not as a "mod" but as someone that posts on a lot of messageboards...it's better if you're not going to "get involved" to not post that you aren't getting involved.

That in itself can cause you to get dragged in....

Here`s a PC version of the pledge, stolen from somewhere else on the net where they discussed this topic. It does sound rather silly, but perhaps you can get used to it.

"I pledge allegiance to the Rainbow Banner of the North American
Bio-Diversity Sphere, and to the Multiculturalism and Gender Neutrality for which it stands.
One Socialist Utopia under The Earth Mother, Inseparable, with
Tolerance and Moral Relativism for all."

Like there's a lot of difference between you and Eddie the Ignoramus anyway--doof bleibt doof, da helfen keine Pillen.

I think it's a good thing I don't speak German, I might have had to take some "mod" action if I did.

Dying "because of religion" does not automatically pertain to anything in which religion is involved. Politics, which IS NOT a religion, is just as much to blame for people killing each other as religion.

If you add up the numbers you'll probably find that natural causes claim the most lives. Cancer, viral diseases, and starvation kill a lot more people than religion.

Probably more to the point saying religion has been used as an EXCUSE for killing a lot of people, while the real REASON was something else. Like money or land. Politicians need a reason for war, and not a few people think that killing for money is a bad thing. Thus religion is used instead. Makes you a heretic if you don`t want to go to war. Luckily people aren`t so easily swayed by religious motives anymore, but there are other excuses to exploit.

I think that's a rather cynical view of things, replacing money with God as a reason for war. I just happen to think that God (or Allah or BoB or whatever) is a more central part of life in those parts of the world that have more to worry about than if their Surround Sound system is set up right.

How is it cynical to say religion has been used (and still is) as an excuse to make people kill each other?

I mean when you say people kill in the name of religion when the real cause is something else seems somewhat cynical.

That doesn't mean you're wrong though.
