Besides dealing with fire from other units, I think infantry will generally have a hard time against a unit with an artillery weapon. Artillery is great at wiping out infantry. And if a lot of infantry units managed to pile up in the same hex as an artillery weapon, the unit could always fire at a an adjacent hex so the spillover damage would still severely damage the infantry. Since units like Superheavy 'Mechs would largely be used defensively, if it got left behind by the fighting, that would mean the defenders (its side) won and routed the attackers Smile

I think that only time someone would even consider using infantry against thi would be for swarming from stealth or there would have to be a truly massive wave comming from multiple directions, like a ton of APCs disgorging a lot of jumping infantry neraby to keep it busy.

Every unit has it's purpose and doesn't do well outside of it's role. A Flea, for example, won't fair all that well in a mission to overrun an enemy position.

If they are built to be ubermunchkin mechs yes, if they are built with a role in mine, ie fire support or something similar no.

And I would like to point, the comment made was a joke, why else put a pulse weapon on a slow mover if not to deal with infantry or those pesky flying squirrels.

More read into things there was, but to clear up things, NOTHING was stated don't use something, but if you read that I guess it was there.

And Mordel, while your comment/question was asked of me, it seem ATN feels the need to weigh in on things and add his own take on trying to answer for me, which I don't think I need his help in answering your question posed to me. Just saying.

Depends, if you are overrunning infantry the Flea could indeed be a good choice and define over run? Are you routing them out of their fixed fortification? Are you chasing them away from an objective for others to grab something? IS the Flea overrunning an area to cause the enemy to have to defend in more then one area?

Lots of use for the Flea. And some of the 2-3 movers can be useful if used right, but they all run the risk of being left out of the fight if the fighting shifts further away from them and then they become a matter of IF they can get to the fight in time they MIGHT swing things to their side.
