TSM rules all baby, especially if the heat curve is perfected on it. I knew a guy who had a custom ride using TSM, he had a perfect heat curve, just drop 3ML and he was at 0 excess heat/turn, but since he started the turn at 9, he always stayed there. His punches often killed assault machines in our campaign.

It disturbs me that alot of people seem to believe that crap like this is actually good for, or needed in the game. How much fun can it be when you lose to some idiot that managed to get initiative and move next to you.

Hell, how much fun is it to know that the only way you can beat anyone is to create something that purely relies on one attack, and very little if any skill?

I think it too bad that TSM was taken from the novels then implemented without the drawbacks that even the writers of the novels saw fit to add, and heck, they haven't got a clue about game design.

The level three crap like Maces etc, don't add anything skill-wise to the game, they let tactically poor players compete with others, by giving them an overwhelming weapon to use. Gauss rifles come very close to doing the same thing. Clan pulse lasers are another of my "favorites"

The 3025 game is fairly well balanced.. The Clan invasion, truly isn't that poorly balanced, but soon after that, FASA tried to balance the Inner Sphere power with Clan power and started screwing things up.

Well Pin, sorry you feel that way. However, just because he used TSM does not mean he relied on it. His ride was nicely balanced with other weapons, and far from being "munchy". But hey, level 2 play aint for everyone, myself, I started playing under level 2 and i like it. Just because you have the opinion that the game is unbalanced, does not mean it truly is. Those who say that are usually die hard level 1 fans, but only about 1/2 of those that I have met think Level 2 play is unbalanced. It all comes down to personal preference.

So, you truly believe that a mech that can do 80 points to a single location with a mace represents a balanced attack style?

I don't do level 1, 2 or 3.. I go by mech ages and technology introductions..

I think 3025 is balanced.

3050 shows the first signs of trying to add weaponry to the game which really screws up the basic underpinnings of the game structure. Head armor was fine until we got ERPPCs and Gauss Rifles. AC20s were nasty, but there are some huge downsides to them, so they were not widely used.

3067 is slock

I generally prefer 3025 actually I usually only pull out the Mace mech when I played someone with a Pulse/TC design they were fielding. (Should have mentioned that eariler actually My bad). I broke even with it in wins and losses. I have tried using them in real games but they usually get damaged earily or are never a factor.

Do you really think 3025 is well balanced? As I see it, the only weapons worth having are the medium laser and the PPC. You can just skip the rest because they don't offer significant benefits. Now if you add CASE to 3025 so ammo explosions are no longer catastrophic, then you might have a balanced game. But just level 1? No, sorry, I can't agree.

CASE should have been level 1....

theres something about the mace, apart from the damage and poor balance of play it gives that makes me not like it. It somehow seems unrealistic, don't know why...

I don't bother with hatchets, maces or swords. They just waste weight and space you could use for a ranged weapon or heat sinks. Besides, those things make you feel you have to get close to an enemy and use that club. It's a waste of good mechs, I tell you. You'll be drawing fire like crazy while closing in, and you'll also be taking physical attacks from your target.

Flashy clown tricks for Solaris VII, not a tactic for the battlefield.

A recon mech that needs a quick, silent kill. Ambush, Demolition, etc. Admitted we are talking special circumstances, but it is a special weapon too. Generally anytime you need a silent kill or want to destroy something without using ammo or lots of weapon noise......

Say what?

Exactly how is a physical weapon going to kill someone "quick"? And how can you use it to "ambush" another mech?

OK, a 7 point full body hit will silently "kill"?

It's probably that 100-tonner with TSM and a mace placed as a hidden unit Well, that is one use for it. The only really sensible use I can think up.

I'd imagine a hatchet causes quite a lot of noise when hitting things, something like a huge car crash. A falling mech isn't exactly made of paper either. Mech combat just doesn't lend itself to quick, silent kills.

And mechs have arms and legs that can be used to destroy things that aren't shooting back, so no need for a hatchet there.
