Not to mention this Padilla character. He went from hispanic gang-banger to Islamic fanatic. So much for profiling.

If it came to exile versus containment camps (or whatever they call them now), I'd go for the latter. As the saying goes "keep you friends close, and your enemies even closer." If these guys are really that dangerous and we let them out of our sight by exiling them, then we just made things worse on ourselves.
The better answer is just better vigilance. Cut the politically correct heifer dust, and the ridiculous stuff that does no good other than trying to make people think that they are safe as opposed to actually making things safe. Do what works, but understand that there is a point where too much freedom is sacrificed for safety. If you want to live in a free society, understand that you must accept certain risks that go with it. If you want to be completely safe, go to some other country that will be your momma and give you a hideously high tax rate to pay for it all.

Capital Punishment!

Capital punishment only makes these fanatics into martyrs. World public opinion is already against us because some of our states still use capital punishment; executing these guys wholesale will only make it worse, and gain us new enemies that before were happy to just stay out of things.
Besides, you have to go through a whole lot more legally for the death penalty. Plus the Federal Government hasn't actually executed anyone for over 10 years.
Locking them away is the worst punishment for them. They are denied the very thing that they wanted: martyr status by dying a hero (and the benefits that come with it in teh afterlife). Besides, in most of our prisons, if we put these terrorists into general population, it would be a death sentence.

I don't object to locking them away, as long as they are fed pork for every meal. Otherwise tie an old battery to their feet and drop them off the continental shelf. Scratch that, the battery might contaminate the ocean, use an old boat anchor.
The only way to win against fanatics is to find the weakness in their idealogy and exploit it. You have to become a worse monster than they are. Frankly, I don't think the current administration or any recent administration could take the criticism for waging that sort of war.

An american who comits a terrorist act is subject to america's laws. American born muslims are americans, DUH! (I HATE the liberal PC speak, it looks more like Orwell's Newspeak from 1984. The book made a good point, but may have let the cat out of the bag)Charge them with the appropriate crime, duly process them, and warehouse them in the facilitys we have for that purpose.
Things are not working right, the goal is to catch terrorists right? The large majority have certain characteristics right? So what do you look for?
When trying to find my car keys I look for the ones that have my cars brand name on them, and look some what like them right? What kind of success would I have by closing my eyes and picking them out of the pot?
THAT is roughly equivalent to the way that airpost screeners are currently trying to find a terrorist!
A 6$ an hour guy is going to follow the proceedure and not much else. he probably wouldn't register the rude dude who fits most of the profile. Who is extremely agitated because he is missing his flight leaving for Hawaii, from LA. A quick check showing no baggage, caryon, and one way ticket, would make me wonder. The west coast is probably on the target list, maybe to Hawaii out of Seattle, with a crash at the Boomer Base where the Missile Subs are. The terrorists might do something different, but it worked before, and it might still work. They just need to modify the plan a bit.

Ooopss. We kinda skipped over him when we were discussing capital punishment statistics in class the other night because of the media hype around it.
Other than McVeigh, the statistics still show that the Feds are the slowest at moving people from death row to the execution chamber. I'll have to check my notes, but I remember right, Texas is actually *not* the fastest. Not that we aren't trying...

For the "fastest" I'm guessing Florida.

You know, the state south of Georgia. The one that had that whole ballot thing going on last election. Florida.

Aren't they the ones that have the malfunctioning electric chair that they've named "Sparky", and they still use it anyway? When objections were raised about the safety of the chair for the prisoners being executed, the answer was "Well, just don't get the death sentence in (the state) and you won't have to meet Sparky."

Chihawk, I stated "Florida?" because I wanted to know your reasoning beind it. I know where and what Florida is, I'm just curious why you would say Florida? They have nothing crazy about capital punishment, do they? _________________ I have the right to remain silent. Anything I say will undoubtedly incriminate me.

LOL! Still though, why the hell would you raise an objection about the safety of a chair for a death row inmate? Aren't the damn things designed to kill? I remember the politically correct cried that one of the inmates because bleeding into his mask as he was being shocked. My defensive reply: "I suppose the girl he stabbed 18 times bled a bit more." _________________ I have the right to remain silent. Anything I say will undoubtedly incriminate me.
