|
|
There is an idea of mine here. I wanted to do something with the level 1 Jagermech, but without changing the nature of the design. First of all I replaced the 5 class ACs with AC/2s and I dropped the MLs, which were used only when the 'Mech was about to die anyway. The remaining tonnage was used for experiments.
The a variant does nothing with armor (the same as the armor on JM6-S) and has some heat problems, but it has the powerful PPC, which will make the AC/2 plinking quite annoying and it allows the 'Mech to stay away.
the b has a Large laser and two tons of armor (the same as JM6-A). Less heat problems and better armor are obvious benefits, but the 'Mech will have to get closer...
Both are meant to act as snipers, so which would you prefer?
THIS IS NO DUEL.

I'll almost always take armor. Even in a sniper roll, you are bound to get hit. But this 'Mech won't be very effective for a few turns until the rest of your 'Mechs start chipping off armor. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I think that most pepole will prefer the armor, but I still want to see what do the others think. This 'Mech is obviously a target with some hope for damaging the foe... _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I like the PPC / AC/2 combination! (Not that I would choose any of that machines anyway , but if I'm forced to take one of these variants in a game I would go with the -a!)
It has a very specialized role involving some other friendly Mechs between you and the enemy that pose a greater threat!
EDIT: By the way: I (personally 8) ) would place the PPC in one arm and the AC's in the other! Just for a cooler look! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Hmm... I like the idea of toying with the JagerMech. I have taken it two ways. dropping 2 AC's and adding either PPC's or Large lasers in the same barrel configs. Ergo..over-under weapons configs. Like AC/5's paired with large lasers or AC/2's paired with PPC's. Use the weight savings on heatsinks and armor. Turns into a hot running design but slightly more useful on the mobile battlefields i always end up on. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

The b variant is a lesser of two evils.
Somehow, IMHO, not having something to hit a Te'Ki with close up, is non-sense.
Edit: Yes, the AC-2/PPC variant is something to look at, but it leaves a 90metre void the Te'ki can butt-stroke you in. AC/2 Min 4, PPC Min 3.
'nuff said. _________________ "A 'Mech as powerful as possible, as impenetrable as possible, and as ugly and foreboding as conceivable, so that fear itself will be our ally."Aleksandr Kerensky — On the Atlas

Yes, but I wanted to avoid slipping back to Rifleman, from which the Jagermech evolved. That's why I avoided using two big energy weapons. That would be an easy upgrade. The damage output was sacrificed for ranged crit seekers and single big gun is just a small bonus, so the 'Mech can do smething else than just brush away some armor _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
