Targeting & Tracking System: Omicron VII
Overview:
Aldis Industries is the maker of classic and respected tanks such as the Demolisher and the Schrek. Recently they branched out and made the very well respected Regulator Hovertank. It was the first real design in years and it was the first to utilize new technologies. This was like a breath of fresh air into the company, but one thing remained, Aldis Industries was a heavy tracked tank manufacturer, not a light tank designer.
Following the spirit of Fenh Shane <sp>, the directors of the Aldis took a huge risk and decided to design and build a new tank without formal consent from the procurement department of the CC. The Zhukov was a testament it could be done, they used mercenaries as its test bed and proving grounds. They were willing to do it again. But this time they would take larger risks by making a more expensive and modern tank, Destroyer.
Even though Aldis wanted new technology they also understood it had to be a good price. With Mech costs skyrocketing, many budgets for armor were shrinking. So the decision was to base the new design on the Zhukov chassis and use as many components Aldis already manufactured or currently purchased. In the end much of the guts of Destroyer were interchangeable with the Zhukov but nothing else was. Design trumped cost every time.
Capabilities:
Decision to base the new Destroyer on the Zhukov meant it would use ICE technology. A drawback but using the GM225 kept the price down and ease of production high. They were able to use the same Olmstead 30 comm system but did have to upgrade to Omicron IX fire control system, which was used on the Demloshier. Addition of CASE around the ammo was designed to save the crew and make the tank salvageable. CASE was found to be a major selling point to most commanders, even if procurement did not care.
The first question to be posed was the main cannon going to be a gauss or autocannon based system. Aldis made both an AC/20 for the Demolisher and a Gauss for the Regulator. But designers wanted the punch of the big bore cannon but the range of the ChemJet 185mm was a serious drawback. The Shengli LB20X was procured from Shengli Arms on Victoria. The big gun had more range than conventional large bore gun. Added was the ability to fire cluster rounds which gave it flexibility based on combat needs. Three tons was deemed acceptable for most clashes but not enough for any long term battle.
Secondary systems were debated over endlessly. Pair of Longfire Vs were added into the turret to give some additional range. One ton of ammo is all that was allotted. Some pushed to upgrade to more launchers or more to give more long range firepower. It was decided that the Longfire's were an auxiliary weapon that was more designed to fire special ammo like flares and flechet than standard rounds. They made the ammo bin very easily accessible to allow quick ammo load out changes based on the mission.
At first the easily obtainable Harvester 20K SRM6 launcher was put in the turret. Great for vehicle suppression but the Shengli LB20X could do that admirably also.
Plus the range was short. Aldis Industries sent a team to Shigunga in the Draconis Combine to discuss licensing MRM technology. Not exactly technology but easier to license than develop on their own or trust long supply lines. Coming back victorious Aldis began making the Shigunga MRM10. Accuracy was lacking but punch and range were not.
The big bore gun, MRM and LRMs gave the Destroyer's turret a very boxy appearance. Once the Hellespont Lite Ferro Fibrous was laid over the internal structure skeleton, the smooth low look of the Zhukov disappeared. Still lower profile than the Demolisher and Schrek but a little odd looking.
From the front two small cupolas point out. One is a Mydron Mini-gun to help suppress infantry and the second was a McArthur AMS system. The AMS system is the only part not made in the Cappellean Confederation, purchased from Terra. AMS was considered critical in allowing the Destroyer to get its big gun closer to the target; also a comfort for the crews to here it destroying incoming rounds. Concerned about supply the AMS can easily be retrofitted with another MG.
Variants:
A few have pulled the AMS due to supply issues and have gone with MGs. Some of the first built Destroyers use the Harverster 20K SRM6 instead of the MRM20.
Deployment
The Destroyer has had some success in sales. Cost for a heavy tank is good but not an inexpensive investment. Also the Ferro armor has caused some concerns about repair and procurement.
To date Militias in the FRR, CC, and DC have bought entire companies of the tank. Lesser powers like the Alliance and Concordat have purchased a couple lances to fill in holes in their main force TOE.
Mercs have purchased varying amounts as a replacement for tanks like the Von Luckner. A few intrepid people are using it as the heavy lance when forming brand new mercenary armor companies.

Okay the fluff is excellent adds depth and character to the vehicle.
One thing I don't follow why the MRM on a CapCon tank? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Maybe the fluff did not really clear it up well enough, price and range.
The MRM is 30K cheaper than the SRM6 and like 70K cheaper than a LRM10.
Also ammo cost is huge. Aldis was not going cheap but needed cost savings to promote every so often.
Range, yes LRM is farther but a min issue. So if all it has is a LB20 and LRM then it is long or short. MRM makes it all medium range.
Playing with Total Warfare rules Vehicle movement gets knocked out quickly. So you get a pill box. Range of 15 is hard to get around. Plus the punch it carries.
AWAD- Today had a Von Luckner with 1/2 movement by the second round.

Since I live in hte Detroit Metro Area I think that is a jab at me and the fact my wife works at GM
But if you look at GM, they make make some of the best powertrain systems in the world, performance and quality. It is the interior they suck like no tomorrow.
So they are not mice, but REALLY BIG RATS, driving that engine.
Thanks for the compliement.
AWAD- It is not pretty in Detroit right now, the Big 3 are in Big trouble

Yeah they are...at U-M they recently published a statistic that over 50% of the graduates here will leave the state after graduation, generally for the Northeast or California, although a significant number go to Chicago, Texas, and Atlanta.
The alumni association has started a major program to help students with their cross-country moves, since so many people are leaving...you see posters for it all over the place here.
Ann Arbor just lost a big Pfizer R&D plant too...which was the biggest taxpayer in town.
Sorry...I know I'm straying off topic here a bit...but AWAD's right, its not a pretty scene in Michigan right now. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

Yeah and my friends and family flip houses for big profit or reduce their PMI. Me just got the notice my house value has decreased. But I left the Atlanta thing, since I am supposed to relocate their this year. 1/2 the reason I joined the company I did.
