If this works, then those soldiers who are fitted with the more high-tech prosthetics might actually be able to return to the field after rehab.

That would a be a good thing. The Army is very quick on processing out soldiers who want to stay in with amuteed limbs and works hard to keep the ones who screw up numerous times.

*is on the edge of crying* This is a great leap that could give me back a usable right arm. I'm not usually bothered by my absent arm, but i cannot but be moved to tears and joy by this article.
I watched a show not to long ago that described the implantation process [using a titanium rod that is inserted into the residual limbs remaining bone] in addition to test performed on monkeys in which there brain patterns were used to move a robotic arm after training the monkey to manually do so for treats. The only limitation at the time to further testing and use of these items was infection.
Maybe within the next decade, i'll have my very own cybernetic arm. Look out Star Wars... the world is catching up to you!

Either TLC or the Discovery Science channel had something about the use of titanium and bone regrowth treatment.
They take a maxtrix of titanium and bone tissue, hey I didn't know bones had tissue, and grow a new bone. The testing was being down in Sweden and the idea was to be able to regrow a finger bone. It's a start. The show never said if it was a success or not but it did show promise.
I too hope this can be done since it will help a good number of people and bring back to them what they lost.

You were the first person that I thought about, when I read the article Vagabond.
