I just have a problem with an XL engine (Clan or IS) without a mech getting a huge boost in speed. 5/8 on a 45 ton is just fair and with that XL problem, it just doesn't seem worth the worry.
I do like the ATM addition though.

Here is what I came up with. If I remove the ER Large I could boost the speed to 6/9/6. With a 1 1/2 tons left over. But would leave it with little long range defense.
The biggest differance in the IS and the clan verison (Besides the ATM) is the armor. The IS is really under armored. while the clan is fully armored. Which is another reason for the speed. If I put it at the IS level. And remove the ER large and a couple of jump jets.. I should be able to boost it a 7/11/6. But it just not be worth it in my opinon.

Toss one of the ATM and keep the ERLL?

Then I could boost the speed to 7/11/5 and still be fully armored. But loosing a possable 27 punch with a 18 at long range. Is just not my style.

Gotta lose something.
Either toss the XL engine or lose a weapon or armor to boost the speed to make having an XL engine an acceptable risk to have.

Look at it this way. on a alpha it could inflict up to 74 points of damage. That is a respectable punch that even a heavy would respect.

Fire Kills Foch said.
But you got to live long enough to shoot that fire.
Losing the ERLL only loses you 12 points of damage. 62 points is still respecable. Maybe lose some armor?

And in return, the heavy would punch the armor right off it.....

Actually, before I lost TDB again, I had saved an IS omni version. I think that making an omni of that particular mech might be better (primarily because of how the weapons loadout and positioning brings to mind a miniature Crossbow.)

The Crossbow and the Cobra are alot alike. They both have missle luanchers in the arms. Both use a standard engine. And both have no weapons in the torsos. The only real differance in the two is one (The Cobra)is a medium, and the other (The Crossbow)Is a heavy and is clan.
My Cobra verison is also clan. But is a medium as well (Just like the IS verison)uses a XL engine and has aweapon in the torso. And is fully armored.
And you are correct. The IS Cobra would be better if made into an omni. And my veriosn would also benifit. But I never thought of doing it. Because the Crossbow is an omni and has the same speed and any weapons configuration I could come up with. But is a heavy and therefore better armored.
If you had a choice between taking to mechs with the same speed and weapons. which one would take? The medium or the heavy?

Money. While it's being ignored as such, even the Clans have some sort of economy. Besides, if the Clans have this job (since The Watch sucks compared to many IS agencies) it would have to be because of Katherine. Meaning that unless Vlad is the type to brag about his "conquests," it's possible that it would show up as an omni (probably not even named that, and possibly modified; Remember, the 3025 Loucst and Stinger had the same loadouts but diferent construction and slightly different mission profiles.) in order to blur its true origins- especially if it were somehow to fall into Marthe Pryde's (AKA: Vlad's other squeeze) hands.

Money is not a big concern in the clans, Be it everyday liveing or desinging and building mechs. Just the production value. In fact the clan economy is based on more of a bardering system. The is clan money though. Used only by the merchin caste, It is called a KE (Kerensky) The the caste use it as black market money.
