I think it actually goes: 'Death is nothing, Duty is everything.
Right, Horhiro?

No, I think it is Death before dishonor.

Honor code? Rules? You said to stop em so I did. My response to my lance leader after slamming two Arrow IV's into the back of a Clan Dashi the first and last time I piloted a 3050 Catapult.
Think that and my tatics with warships shows you my view of thing.

I played in the Battle of Luthien at TotalCon on the IS side, and with 2 heavy lances me and my partners mauled a light front line star and an assault second line star. Granted we fought the light star first and then the assalt star, but I still expected to get hosed by the assaults. Instead the IS scored a decisive victory, and the clan honor rules were definitly a major factor and perhaps THE deciding factor.

This is exactly the problem with the game. Using real world ideas with the Clans.

I disagree. I believe the problem is with the players who cannot accept that this is a game, it is fiction, and it is not the real world or should be held to real world standards. The Clans were as alien as these writers wanted to make the game and they fit in just fine as fictonal characters.

I can understand that is fiction and all that, but at some point, even the ability to suspend reality has to give whay to the "What the hell was FASA thinking" mentality.

i think that Clan Honor rules were a way the level the field. About 8 years ago I was running a tournamentin which clan rules were in effect and the IS players used that to their advantage. My Clan Warriors offered up challanges and this one player accepted the challange of the clansmen on the oppisite end of the field. by the time they got to duel. the IS had taken the field

In theory they were a way to level the playing field. The Clanners got all these neat new shiny toys...but that honor thing. The IS could gang up on the...but again the honor thing.
The problem came because they never really defined the Honor rules...at least not until First Strike came out. And when they did have to obey those honor rules as soon as the IS player did anything contrary to those rules the Clan player could toss the rules and fight thike normal, only with the equipment advantage. In many ways it was a win/win situation for the Clan player.
Tjhe Clan players were suppossed to bid down to an acceptable level, then play with honor rules, but that never really happened a lot of the time. Seriously, go back and look at the original TRO 305 and there is no real mention of how to play as Clansmen.
