Yes there was, the ultra light mechs...contrary to what FASA claimed AFTER 1994, they had done up a couple of Ultra lights one Clan and one Inner Sphere for an Update product flyer that made the rounds at conventions, later a certain and former line developer tried to say those mechs didn't exist since no record sheet was done for them, but most folks who saw the mechs in the flyers, say they are 100% legal to use.
Plus in the one time OFFICAL FASA magazine Star Date, there were six ultra lights done up for use in the game.

I still have that flier, and the Clan ultra light in question is called the RD-1R Roadrunner...
15 tons, 15-23(30)-5, 2 ERML.
It is not legal as the equipment listed adds up to over 15 tons (16.5 if I remember correctly).

Funny, I built it in HMPro and it came out to 15 tons...I can send it to you if you want it?

I would also say the Protomechs gotta go.
If I recall right, the reason they were invented is because the Clan worlds are running out of resources. "?"
How long have we been digging up ore here on Earth so far? And the Clans, with scores if not hundreds of planets to mine from are about to run out of metals and minerals after a lousy 2 or 3 centuries? Oh, please.
The other big problem with the protos is that the Clans are supposed to abhore waste. True, the proto pilots are failed fighter jocks. But if you put them in a proto their combat life will be only a few years at best (a very short career even by Clan standards) and after that they just die or go nuts, no productive civilian life? Looks pretty wasteful to me.
And what about bloodnames? Will the Clans make up or hand out bloodnames to troops who are at heart just a bunch of fighter jocks who were second rate at best when compared to their peers?
Perhaps all a protomech really is at the end of the day is just a Mitsubishi A6M Zero with a 16 year old pilot whose first mission is also his first solo flight and who has only enough fuel in his tanks to fly out to where the American Navy parked their ships.

Really? I never put it into HMP, just did the math out when I made a mech sheet for it...
Post it for everyone to see--I'm sure many here have no clue about the mech.

Are you insane? LAMs are entirely too powerful. The mere ability to jump anywhere on the board anytime it feels like is just plain hurtful. Add in the movement modifiers and it can't be hit often.
(Does anybody remember Old Dog's Vampire LAM he made with the stuff from MaxTech? It could only be hit if you didn't move and it was adjacent to you you still needed 12s)
As much as I dislike having to defend Nystul at any time, tossing the LAMs was a good move on his part.
Karagin wrote this and I wanted to address it: As for custom mechs, well again that depends, if the mech is one that millions can be made overnight, (cough TR3060 cough) then sure that starts to push to the limits of the game, but if customs are so bad then why did FASA start off with letting us make our own mechs and vehicles etc...?
Remember when the game first came out there were only 14 mechs. Then the added some in 3025 so there were only 150 or so mechs and varients. And remember some of those were extremely rare. It didn't become a problem until they started having all new equipment and that damned Clantech that everyone under the sun had custom supermonsters.
That Level 1 100 ton monster might have 50 tons of weapons, but there was no way it could fire them all every turn. Once DHS became an item, all that was thrown out the window.

There are no stats for that one out there that I have seen but you may want to try here:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Dome/6058/trl/trlassault.htm
Some where on that site should be some of the forgotten FASA mechs...
