I am not very happy about where the current storyline is going. For a while I was getting back into buying Btech novels and such, but after reading the overview from the MW:DA site I have become very disenchanted with the whole thing. However, I am not sure what kind of story I would have in its place. Most of the time I think that I would prefer something with generally opportunistic parties, who are neither good nor bad, jockeying for position via war and politics, like the old Btech storyline. Sometimes I get the urge for something twisted and morbid (been playing too much Twisted Metal Black lately).
So if you guys could have the storyline you wanted for Btech, what type of storyline would you choose? Would you stay with the hero vs villain storyline that is in place, or something different?

Everyone thinks he`s a hero for winning. All generals tell their soldiers they are on the right side, and their cause is just.
This makes it quite grey, neh?
If everyone is stupid enough to believe the party line without question it becomes a tragedy.

Yeah, I think Btech could use a dark twist every now and then. They had potential with Katherine S-D, but unfortunately they chose a different path for the story. It's too bad. Having her cut up Victor and take the throne would have been fun, IMO.

Nah i'm thinking what is needed is a diabolical organization that strikes from the shadows, but not the darkness.
An organization of pure insufficient evil.
A brotherhood.

What is really missing is the developemnt of new characters and medium size powers. This means everything to a Mech Battalion of some house, some mercs, the Regualns or Marik, Outworlds alliance, hell even the Steel Vipers. It is all big ass change the world shit, or little group that gets big an powerful. So how about a group that survives, and makes changes, but is far from successful, I.E. stop the Jade Falcon invasion but get screwed at pay check time. Or the really successful bunch that piss someone off and get exiled.
May a book of short stories would work well. It gives a chance to add new writers to the BT Universe. Some guys came in with little expirence or ability, both writing and with the BTech storyline and got to jack everything up. So this way we get a feeling of how the BTech universe currently is. This means telling stories of a tramp jump ship, poor infantry smooes agasint BA, aero fighters caught on the ground, vehicle lance on boring partol, intrigue and espionge at a mech factory, murder on Solaris.... hell the list goes on.
Also it needs to go back to Grey, with epic heros that have some sort of redeeming quality, even if they are bastards.
AWAD- has not read a new Btech novel in some time
@@@Sorry for sll teh typso@@@@@

AWAD has a valid point. Some stories about tthe little guys would really give the universe a lot more depth and feel, not to mention abreath of freath air. Who knows where it might lead . . .

I too am just disappointed by the official timeline. It is just bad writing hampered by bad plotlines.
Can I do better? Absolutely. And to put my money where my mouth is, I'm writing a campaign that starts where the 20 Year Update leaves off. I'm incorporating the little good that has come out of the last 13 years of game history. When it is done, I'll be putting it online for anyone to view, and use themselves. _________________ I'm not family friendly. That's why I don't post here.

I think things have been rushed...It seems that since FASA kicked the bucket and WK/FP took over everything has had this rushed feel.
For example the FC Civil War could have been the main point for many years real time, sorta like the 3025 setting was, but we got a year to 2 years really time out of it.
The novels seem to be very kiddiefied and written at the teenage level, sure it's fun to see Victor over come all the odds and still try to be morally good, but that is not how life really works. If it was then we wouldn't have 99% of the problems that we do today.
I agree AWAD, a book of short stories ala SHARPNEL would be a good thing, because they could give some the excellent fanfiction writers a chance to shine and add new blood to the writing pool and it the process breath life back into the story and plot lines.
The current plot line reads like a really cheesy WW3 novel, wacko faction has or get's WMD, uses they and everyone goes nuts and some super good messiah type figure saves the day and all is better for everyone. I am sorry but that is so over used and so predictible that it's not even funny. Like the last James Bond film, the one with the lady who owned the oil company...cool movie, but I had figured out that she was the bad guy before Bond did...and that is not a good sign.
A return to the gray where everyone is out for themselves and if someone or some group get's screwed over, well tough. A return to where no one is the good guy in the white hat riding off into the sun set after winning...

I agree with this.
I'd like to see some of the Periphery/IS relations brought more into play.
The Trinity thing is good, but what about all the other "minor" powers, that are underutilised in the BT universe.
It would be nice to see their effect on BT once in a while.

That sounds good.
To be honest, I don't think it will be hard for you to write a better timeline. I am pretty sure that when they wrote the new timeline, it went something like this:
"Hey, we could have Word of Blake, like, take over Terra, and then totally bust out with legions of doom and destroy, like, everything!" - Stackpole
"Dude!" - Randall Bills
"Sweet!" - Bryan Nystul***
***Actual events may have been different.
Anyway, it will be fun to check out what you come up with.

You mean they actually thought about it? I thought they sniffed crack and thats what came out of a drug induced haze...

the Blakists took Terra a LOOOOONNNGG time ago (Malicous Intent)... What I wanna know is what Stakpole had in mind when this happened. And what about the little guys introduced over the years? like that chick that was in love with the assassin who killed Melissa Steiner and MAYBE even Hanse Davion? Or that Guy who Defended Coventry (though I did see him mentioned since then he wasn't a major character)
