KCG-X King Crab

Trade out 15 standard HS for 10 DHS. Elevate armor to maximum (approx. 17 tons.) Trade out AC/20s for twin Guass Rifles. Remmove CASE from right torso and shift LRM 15 ammo into left torso. Increase ammo loadout for Guass rifles to two tons each.

It's OK, but Comstar already has a KC like that. Plus there are already a plethora of mechs that have dual gauss rifles. I would prefer dual AC/20's, just to make it original.

And deadly. Those twin AC are nasty. But blow on range. I have a mech that has twin AC 20s and an ERPPC. Just to give it some range.

Twin AC/20s *and* an ERPPC? What's your heat scale? Realistically, the weapons on the King Crab were most likely given staggered weapons ranges by the designers just to compensate for the AC/s heat since the decision was somehow made to not go with DHS

Simple...you wouldn't fire the ERPPC with the dual AC20.

Look at the PTR-4D Penatrator...2ERLL and 6MPL, with 12 DHS. You only fire one set of weapons--ERLL at range, MPL for close combat. And a huge plus is the ERLL are in the arms, freeing them up to punch when firing the MPL.

It's called "heat management"--it's a lost art form in the DHS era

Oh, and about the King Crab mod--I intensely dislike the "cookie cutter" approach to creating mechs.

The orgininal had a lot of character, making the mods you suggest just turn it into your "run of the mill" assault mech.

However, since all that is really changed is the twin main weapons (which by the fluff are covered by twin claw-like structures when not in use), no one would be openly expecting to get hit at long range by them. And I get more ammo out of the deal for them.

An AC20 and a guass rifle don't look anything alike, so even being covered there would be an obvious difference. And has already been said the twin gauss has been done multiple times.

But I do not fire them toghter. Unless I have to. I do not know the exact heat scale. because I have not played it in a while.
