Overview:
Commissioned by the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery to D&K Creation Studios after viewing
their previous BattleMech line up, the mech that went under the provisionary name of
"Project Stardew" is a somewhat odd mech.
The commission requirements were that they needed a command BattleMech, one that had superb
communications equipment and had the ability to interface to a C3 Network through a C3
Master, while being able to barrage the enemy at range while it closed it with its fellow
comrades towards an objective, or to hold well in a defensible position.
With the parameters in mind, the creative teams at D&K Creation Studios got to work on what
might possibly be their most important project to date, and thus the Cantata was born.
Capabilities:
With the customer's wants in mind, the creative teams came up with the following for the
basis of the chassis.
Firstly, a 270 rated standard fusion engine was chosen to power the 90 ton chassis, allowing
it to clip along at a moderate pace to keep up with contemporary assaults of the same weight
class.
Secondly, 17 tons of standard armor as well as 14 double heat sinks were chosen to keep the
mech cool running as well as well protected from most protracted firefights.
Thirdly, it was decided to pack all of the commissioned electronic equipment, that is the
seven tons of communications equipment and the C3 Master System, in the right torso. While
risky should it be damaged, it was viewed as a needed sacrifice to fit the weapon systems
into the chassis.
Fourthly, the weapon systems chosen are interesting. First off are a pair of Artermis IV
linked MML/9s, with a ton of LRM and SRM ammo apiece fed from the legs. This was chosen as
the place for the ammo bins entirely for one reason: it was the only location left to fit
them in the already cramped chassis.
Moving on, it also carries an extended range large laser in the left arm for further long
range firepower. It also carries a triplet of Small Pulse Lasers, two in the right arm and
one in the head, for a combination of close in weapon support as well as anti-infantry duty.
And finally, for a personal touch, the company's calling card in a center torso placed Laser
AMS system was included to protect the 'Mech from enemy missile fire and to further
emphasize its duty as a command mech.
It should be noted that when the design was finalized by the team, they realized when adding
up the production and procurement costs that this was technically one of their most cost
efficient mechs to date. When said scuttlebutt reached their DCMS liaison, he asked about it
and shared a good laugh with the head engineer of the team over the final overview before
the production run order was sent off.
