BattleMech: Hammer HMR-3M
Rating: 1.00
Comment: Why this mech would ever be paired with the Anvil is a mystery to me- unless mediocrity loves company. The firepower on this mech is ludicrous: Artemis just looks silly attached to LRM-5's. 8 tons are dedicated to dealing an average of 8 points of damage. It carries ammo and has a standard engine, but no CASE. It carries extra single heat sinks when it could easily accommodate doubles. It's slow and doesn't jump and has, at best, average armor protection for 3055.

BattleMech: Mad Cat (Timber Wolf) B
Rating: 1.00
Comment: This weapons loadout is very similar to the Grizzly- which would be great if the Mad Cat were a second-line mech with a standard engine. The firepower actually isn't bad, but the ammo limitations doom it. It loses half a point just for the inefficient pairing of Artemis and an SRM-4, and another half-point for mounting a small pulse instead of an ER Medium that its heat sinks can easily support.
I can't believe someone suggested using this to lead a recon star- who wants a 5/8/0 ammo hog leading their recon mission? As for having a low battle value; the last thing you want when looking for low BV's are unusable heatsinks hardwired into your omni chassis.

BattleMech: Highlander HGN-733
Rating: 3.50
Comment: This mech is exactly how 3025 era techs would try to replace an unrepairable gauss rifle. Logically a PPC and more heat sinks would make for a better mech, but this is more of a field repair anyway. It has great armor, deep ammo bins, and the firepower is okay for 3025. The only real problem is the loss of CASE.

BattleMech: Excalibur EXC-B2
Rating: 2.50
Comment: This mech is terrible, but I love it. There are so many flaws with this design that it's hard to know where to start (ammo in all three torsos, no armor, single heat sinks, no energy weapons, the list goes on). That being said, this mech is fun to play. Like the Rifleman, the Excaliber has a lot of style, and it requires a great deal of skill to use effectively.

BattleMech: Ostscout OTT-7J
Rating: 4.50
Comment: One of the most under-rated mechs in the game. I have used this (the unmodified 3025 version) to kill a Jade Falcon Uller, as well as several IS lights. A charge or death-from-above from an Ostscout is lethal to most light mechs. And, if the situation turns ugly, no mech is better at quick escapes.

BattleMech: Loki (Hellbringer) PRIME
Rating: 2.50
Comment: Everyone knows about the Loki's light armor, and everyone knows about its massive firepower. So, this mech becomes Target Number One whenever it shows its face. It's like the Hunchback IIC: everyone is scared of what it can do, but they know it'll fall easily. So they do everything they can to kill it as soon as possible. It's got a great weapons and equipment mix (barring the nearly useless AP pods), but it also has a huge "shoot me" sign pasted on it.

BattleMech: Marauder II MAD-4H
Rating: 0.50
Comment: This has less long-range firepower and worse heat venting than the 3025 Marauder. Firing both PPC's and running (and at 3/5 with mostly short range weapons, you'd better be running), this builds up 11 heat points. Those rocket launchers are going to be even less accurate at high heat. Good weapons loadouts aren't about maximum potential damage; they're about maximum actual damage. Rocket launchers have their place, but a slow 100 ton undergunned mech with single heat sinks is not it.

BattleMech: Phoenix Hawk IIC 3
Rating: 2.00
Comment: I've never understood the fast 80-tonners. This machine carries a massive XL Engine, Endo-Steel and Ferro-Fibrous Armor, yet the same firepower, heat sinks, armor, and jump capacity would fit on a 60-tonner. It's maneuverable and scary at close range, but weak for a Clan assault.

BattleMech: Locust LCT-3M
Rating: 2.00
Comment: What is the fascination 3050 refitters have with the AMS? Why would any sane person _lower_ a tiny mech's armor coverage to mount a system that a) requires CASE b) only works against missiles c) only has enough ammo for two salvos. This tonnage could have gone to another ton of armor and another medium laser. An AMS is a supplement to armor, not an alternative.

BattleMech: Ryoken (Stormcrow) C
Rating: 4.50
Comment: Easily one of the most underrated designs, this is probably the best choice for battles in vaccuum or any unusual battle conditions (darkness, thick woods, etc.). The potential damage is almost as high as with the prime version, and it will be scoring a lot more hits.
