Comment: This assault has heavy armor and tremendous firepower but an XL engine in such a slow machine is rather wasted as are all that fancy electronics.
As a brand new design not based on an old one ES would have been a good choice. Rip out the electronics, that superfluous small laser and maybe the rearfiring pulse lasers to put in a standard engine and a third JJ.

Comment: Use this just like a grasshopper.
The SRM is a useful critseeker payed for with a ton of armor.
But for a unknown (for me) reason I never liked it as much as the GHR, maybe I thought of it as an easy copy.

Comment: Nice try but too many flaws here.
Much too oversinked (even 10 single heat sinks would have done it), too little firepower and a standard small laser in a Marik mech; The inventors of the ER lasers.
Drop three heat sinks for something useful!
What about an LRM-15 and another ton of ammo?

Comment: A straight upgrade that keeps that "Griffin-feeling".
More punch and range than the original with no heat buildup and a PPC without min range.
The XL is needed to keep the mobility here without sacrificing firepower. Its not build for brutal close in fighting.
Only thing to complain about is that next to useless can-opener.

Comment: A more flexible variant of the -1N but one I donīt like.
The lasers give it a decent short to medium range capability but putting all of them into one arm calls for losing them all.

Comment: Not that bad but lots of unused potential.
With its speed and mobility it is able to choose the magic 7 hexes for the LRM, a range at which the pulse laser is fine too.
But it is much oversinked and so your able to use 3 tons for additional shortrange weaponry, Artemis or the like.

Technical Readout: Grasshopper GHR-C
Rating: 2.00
Comment: Though the -5J finally gets rid of that superfluous mass of missiles and can be integrated in a C3-network now it still not a good Grasshopper. The AMS keeps it from getting more than minor firepower even at close range and even in that 3050 environment that it belongs to.

Comment: The Grasshopper is a fine mech but this isnīt.
Loosing two mediums for an AMS isnīt worth it. Now it has too little firepower for a 70 tonner.
I like the LRM-5 of the -5H very much but the change to a streak isnīt bad too (As the ER laser covers its range). But what is all that streak ammo for?
The Grasshopper deserves a better upgrade.

Comment: Very good combination of mobility, firepower, armor and heatsinks.
In urban areas it will give any enemy a bad day. Out in the open itīs not defenseless but less useful so keep it in the city or in woodlands.
The single LRM-5 was fun every time I had a Grasshopper in the field.
A pling here and a pling there if the enemy got out of medium laser range.

Comment: As good as the parent-5K but with the added potentials of a C3-network.
The loss of one rear firing laser is really no problem here.
The ER-PPC / LRM-combo works excellent with C3 targeting data and its speed can be even used to close and transmitting data to your lance mates if the need arises.
Still its a bit oversinked for my taste and still suffers from its thin armor.
FF or even ES (for new production models) would have been fine.
