BattleMech: Locust LCT-1L

Comment: I am familiar with the fluff and story arc behind this design. The TSM is not useful on a design like this and only increases the costs of production. The base design is sound and inexpensive. The TSM is merely a superfluous change enabled by story arcs.

BattleMech: FrancicaMan FM-1A

Comment: Am I seeing this right?
A 60 tonner that goes 3/5? And when you fire your ER PPC you drop to 2/3. If you fire everything you become nearly immobile. I'd drop some armor and downgrade the LRM 15 to a 10 so I could clear up the tonnage for a 240 engine. And add some double heatsinks for crying out loud!! At the speed this unit goes, you could only catch up to a unit that has a leg locked up. Other than that the hatchet is near useless.
If you are going to create a hatchet wielding mech, look at the Scarabus. It's only 30 tons but it is very fast and pretty heat efficient. It can catch you to make use of it's hatchet not wait and hope the enemy just walks up and says, "Hit me!"

BattleMech: Grillmaster GRM-6L
Rating: 4.00
Comment: I'm impressed this made it to production. I mean I helped make it!!

Good damage and range with decent armor and speed for it's size and era. Heat dissipation is subpar for shotting all weapons but in it's day such was the case with most designs. I love the cooler in the cockpit as well as the command couch produced by Laz-E-Boi which was omitted from the fluff.

BattleMech: Rifleman RFL-17
Rating: 2.50
Comment: I like the Rifleman design line. But I see some flaws in this one. Lack of a backup weapon system. Sounds funny in a mech with 4 weapons. But it is still something to be looked into. Good damage and range. Poor armor and heat problems have not been dealt with enough. CASE helps alot to salvage the chassis after ammo explosions. However if you do get an ammo hit you lost 50% of your weapons. I would like to see a pair of medium lasers in the central torso for backup incase of catastrophic weapons failure such as loss of an arm.

BattleMech: Rifleman RFL-82s
Rating: 3.50
Comment: Hard hitting indeed! Just not all at once. I would wear two cooling vests in this one! AS long as you keep the LG ER's on a seperate firing link you can be pretty devastating in this ride. Keep the medium ER's and the LG pulses together for close in combat. You can drop a half ton of armor and only lose 1 armor point. Maybe drop the pulses to normal LG lasers and drop the ES. then you could add one more DHS or maybe an ECM and active probe.

BattleMech: Orb Weaver OW-1
Rating: 0.50
Comment: Umm...don't blame the Capellans on this one. It would have been cheaper to make a weapons platform with the same weapons and just have an infantry regiment carry it on their backs. It can't even outrun infantry for crying out loud!! It has a lot of armor and it can dish out a lot of damage(it's only two positive points), however it cannot sustain full use of it's damage dealinbg capacity without overheating so some management is required. It doesn't even have the speed needed to turn itself around. An UrbanMech can turn itself around!!!
AS I siad, don't blame the Capellans for this one. They would rather produce a lance of WSP-3L's than one of these.

BattleMech: Purple Flame
Rating: 2.50
Comment: Interesting design. I love quads though. I must put the lasers as the primary weapons for this mech. The heatsinks aren't enough for the job and I think you could have dropped some armor for another heatsink or two. The RAC's have very limited ammo making them, in my eyes, multiple use RL's with better damage capabilities. At least it doesn't cost too much. It's slow and a brute to bring down and is slightly more manuevcerable than a 2 legged mecch of the same tonnage.

BattleMech: Jenner JR7-1H
Rating: 2.50
Comment: Interesting design. The narc helps the SRM's hit with more missles and if you pair this Jenner with 3 JR7-D's you get a very dangerous strike lance.
One bone though. The Jenner design didn't come out til 2784 and IIRC did not even serve in SLDF armies.
Other than that I like the design as a lance mech more than as a stand alone. The loss of 2 medium lasers hurts it's overall firepower and the addition of the narc doesn't compensate IMO. A variant of this design could keep the 4 lasers and replace the CT mounted SRM with the narc and put the ammo in a side torso. You could producee both and keep your enemies guessing as to which Jenner they actually face.

BattleMech: Quickcell Model A QM-1A
Rating: 1.50
Comment: I agree that this is a piece of crap. However as iut was made by Quikcell it hits it's target sales group. Poor people. A small baron on a poor world can barely afford good tanks let alone a bad mech. However this mech is affordable to them. Your enemy has a few tanks and some grunts. You suddenly have a lance of these mechs. Your enemy's troops will be crapping themselves, and your enemy will think you have someone powerful backing you and may sue for a ceasefire if not peace.
All-in-all I think this design hits it's design parameters well. Though I would be hard pressed to be forced to pilot one of these.

BattleMech: Stirge ST-06A
Rating: 3.50
Comment: Okay. This design goes upwards of 200 kph and has a damage potential that can knock an opponent from their feet. It has no ammo problems and minimal heat problems. The armor is more than adequate for it's size and mounts a targeting computer for added accuracy. Good design.
