BattleMech: Firestarter FS9-H
Rating: 4.00
Comment: You want it burned, you call a Firestarter.

A good scout mech but an amazing specialist, the Firestarter can even handle general purpose work to a point, but the lack of hands and sub-average armor are problematic.

For a proper fix, the rear-mounted flamer should be removed, with the MG ammo cut in half and used to fill up the flamer's location. That leaves another ton and a half for use as armor, turning it into a well-armed, nimble light-juggernaught.

Try it, you'll be shocked at how well it works against other mechs. And up against infantry? YIKES.

BattleMech: Firestarter FS9-M "Mirage"
Rating: 1.50
Comment: A firestarter without flamers is no firestarter at all.

You're better off with a Stinger or a Wasp for scouting ... two cost about as much as a single flameless Firestarter, provide the same level of firepower, but are more surviveable.

This is just a useless design, cast aside for good reason.

BattleMech: Jenner JR7-D
Rating: 2.50
Comment: For years and years, I've heard great things about teh Jenner, about how it's *the* light mech for the DCS, and how few light mechs can stand against it...

I never saw it.

Teh Jenner's got a poor heat ripple, a lack of anti-infantry weapons, and sub-par jumping ability. When teh heatspike slows it down, that paper-thin armor's going to go, leaving the Jenner broken in no time.

Never could support this lil guy.

BattleMech: Jenner JR7-F
Rating: 2.00
Comment: Still a Jenner, only now with more armor, but at the cost of teh SRM, which is about the only nifty thing the previous version had.

STILL under-jumps, and is STILL ruined by any scouting foe, such as infantry bands, it might encounter. As a light striker, it has some small use, but recon is *gone* in this form, and raiding's never been an option for the handless.

No flamer, no MG, no SRMs to deal with light vehicles that can keep pace with it or tough stopgaps between it and a target ... the Jenner just has no options, other than 'Burn it with medium lasers'.

Bah.

BattleMech: Ostscout OTT-7J
Rating: 2.00
Comment: Poor mech with great fluff, I've never found an Ost-series mech that i could stomach, let alone love.

Stick with teh Spider ... it's cheaper, just as fast and agile, but better-armed.

Or better yet, switch to a couple of Stingers. :)

BattleMech: Panther PNT-9R
Rating: 4.50
Comment: One of the best mechs of any size from any house. Period.

Fat Heat control, but able to spike it if needed, agile despite being slow, well-armored, AMAZINGLY well-armed, and, in teh SRM, even has a good support weapon.

Two or three Panthers wearing a mech down at range, then finishing the armor-stripped target off at short rage with SRM barages is a standard tactic, and is oh-so effective.

The only weakness of teh Panther is that it's *so* good that pilots routinely think that it can fight outside it's weight class more than it can. Against mediums, sure, but don't swap licks wth a Heavy ... they'll pound you every time.

Stick to pack tactics, and you're golden.
