Right now I'm prepared for any possible flamings....

How many people play Dark Age?
Just wondering as I have today, ordered the premier edition big box set so I can get started on it.

I have a couple of friends who play it. I don't. but they seem to enjoy it.

A few players in my group are reading the novels. They say that the storys have improved greatly since MW's first release.

I've played a few games, and collected alot of the minis...I'm currently only 2 Limited Edition figures and a couple of non-uniques from having the full set of Stormhammers...I have somewhat more to go on my collection of Bannson's Raiders...I've also gotten all the uniques and limited edition figures for the Kell Hounds, Hansen's Roughriders and Wolf's Dragoons...still need a few nons from these units though...

As a game it's fun, my only troubles are the story behind it.

Ive got some o the minis. As a qucik and dirty game its not bad. BUt it lacks some of the 'depth' of the original game. When I was aced with a big friggin opponent in Battletech, I could at least hope for a lucky head shot to even things out. The DA rules are just about pounding on a target and letting the numbers do the talking.
Still, if youre looking for a game, and dont want to go full out (whats wrong with you?!?) its fair to middlin.
The story line seems a bit hokey. I can understand moving things forward a ways, starting with a clean slate and all that, but taking things back to a 3025 era tech level seems to be a bit extreme. Come on, kids. I dont think that the clans would EVER scrap their Toumans just because they got beat on Strana Mechty. And as for the IS, show me a House leader who guts their military to the levels that MW:DA has, and Ill show you someone whos about to be executed for Sedition and Treason.

I do want to go full out
It's just that this will ease me in, and I can probably play it with anyone. Whereas CBT, I only know one person off-line who can play it and has the material needed.
Plus it solves me having to worry about unit selection from the start (I can do that later when I get used to it) and involves more than just 'Mechs.
As I get used to it, I can stretch to CBT.
Maybe if enough people play DA, and start hollering for the between years, someone will write the books and actually tell us what happened in the years between the old books and DA.
Might as well support the community, and encourage first-timers into the universe, then get them to upgrade to CBT.

Looking forward to getting into it

I know I'm double posting, sorry about that.

But my MechWarrior Dark Age troops arrived this morning!
Sweet!

I got the following things:
Centurion - Hachetman (unique) - Ryoken II (unique) - Koshi

JESII Missile carrier - SM1 Tank Destroyer - JES Missile Carrier x2

Hoverbike Squad x3 - Purifier Battle Armor x2-
Cavalier Battle Armor x2 - Gnome Battle Armor - Standard Foot - Peasant Company

Theoretically i have enough unit points for 6 people to play (over 900 points) but in actuallity it's more like 4-5 as the Ryoken II is 191 point's.

I have mostly Highlander and Swordsworn units, but I have a couple of Dragon's Fury units, 1 Bannson's Raiders and 1 Steel Wolves unit.

Can't wait to start playing!

It's a pretty decent unit. It's one of the JES missile carriers, and the better of the two.
point value = 38
collectors number = 56
Veteran rank

I'm in Nottingham, Great Britain.
How far away are you?

Im aaaallllllllllllll the way over in Vancouver, Brittish Columbia. And my stuf is back at my old residence in Ames, Iowa. Long story.
What faction are you looking into, and what kind of unit do you prefer (armor, infantry, mech)? I dont have any of the DFA stuff, so no VTOLs.
Im callin my folks today, and Im going to tell them to ship up the MW:DA stuff, but its going to take a couple of weeks, even with priority mail. %^#(*-ing customs.......

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for or what faction yet.
I probably would be looking into expanding my vehicles for the moment. And probably the Highlanders, as I have the most units for that faction.

Hmm postage could be fairly expensive.

Played my first game today against someone other than myself
Twas all good!
I won in the end, though if the game had been 15 mins shorter, I would have lost.
I was the Highlanders with the Bannson's Raiders JES missile carrier and Steel wolves Cavalier Battle Armor thrown in.
Opposing the Swordsworn with a bit of Dragon's fury thrown in.
100 point forces. Next game we will go for 200 and utilise the 'Mechs.
Yeah we enjoyed that.

Coolies.
The mechs make bigger targets, so borrowing from the Hells Horses doctrine wouldnt be a bad idea.
Are you playing on just a flat area, or do you have some terrain involved?
Highlanders....I think I may have some of them. Gimme a bit and Ill give you some more info.

We are playing on a flat area at the moment, once we get used to other bits of the rules, then we will add terrain.
The Mechs I have are:
the Koshi - 98 points
the Hatchetman - 134 points (unique)
the Centurion - 146 points
and the Ryoken II - 191 points (unique)

So which ones will get used remains to be seen. We are both playing from the same unit pool i.e. mine.
Only the Centurion is Swordsworn the other 3 are Highlanders.

I think I may try for the Koshi and the 2 JES missile carriers with some battle armor to fill the points up. But we saw how effective the JES missile carrier could be yesterday, so I would be suprised if my friend didn't go for one.
We chose to pick units alternately with player being chosen by a die roll. Otherwise I would have picked my force and he'd have to go for the remenants, which isn't really fair

What's the biggest force pointwise that you've played with?

I played with a 400 point army, once, but we found that a force that big can bog down kind of fast. I prefer stuf in the 200 to 300 point range. One, theres fewer units to keep track of, and thus wind up 'lost' and out of place. Two, the game goes quicker, so you can get more games in the same ammount o time as a mega-point-army game.
And I love my Flamer-elementals against mechs. Makes the green players cower. That and my unique Firestarter. I havent been able to deploy my unique Atlas, yet. That boy is EXPENSIVE. Somewhere in the area of 210 points, or something....

Hey, Bullfrog. My folks are going to be sending me a package within the coming month that should have my MW:DA stuff in it. You still interested in trading some of the minis?
