You know History is a great subject. I had the pleasure of actually having someone who loved history as one of my professors in High School. He was the best history teacher I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
There are always multiple sides to every historical event.. His specialty was American history, and he taught a flow that started pretty much from the first colonies, through the American revolutionary war, and into the Civil War. He could show cause and effect all throughout early American History.
Couple years ago, my son had to do a report on the root causes of the American Civil War. I talked to him about it, and talked to him about what that professor had taught us.. Chris decided that the theme of his paper would be that the root cause of the American Civil war was the founding of the Americas by Christopher Columbus.. He wrote 10 pages or so justifying the entire thing, and I have to admit I got a kick out of reading it. His history teacher though gave him a "B" and wrote that he should take her assignments more seriously.
He also justified Britain's position that the American Colonies were nothing more than a bunch of spoiled children that refused to pay their fair share in a war that was at least in part fought to keep them safe . And that many if not most of our "Patriots" were actually people that owed large sums to British people and would have been financially crushed had we not broken away.

Yeah, the more history you study outside of public schools, the more you learn. For instance, last year I learned that teh Gremans were legally justified in sinking the Lusitania because she *was* illegally smuggling arms, and that the civilians on board were essentially used as human shields by the Allies.
My history prof was shamelessly anti-PC, and we loved it.
