It's a club, just like the old Mechforce was a club. You get benifits, but you still have to pay for it and like a club you are getting things you may not want or need.
Having the chance for a PDF is nice, but since the need to support the PAPER version is what is at stake on the make or break of the game, having the PDFs really ends up hurting the game. Once a hobby shop figures out they don't need to stock things because oh wait their customers can order it on line BEFORE even they the store can get it, tells them that well the game isn't important enough to be supported via the printed media then they need not carry it.
So personally I think the PDFs should come out AFTER or at the SAME time as the printed version so as not to dilute sales of the latter.
But hey that's my opinion, same with the novels. They should still have BT novels coming out, it's a decent way to get folks into the game, but alas that chance was lost when WK bought the game and stuck with ROC as the publisher for the novels...I might be missing the hidden parts of the picture but it stills seems that one part of this team is bound and determind to shot the whole group in the foot again and again.

Have you ever tried using a Rule or Source book on PDF while playing? IT'S FREAKING ANNOYING! Every person I know who has a source book on PDF also buys the hardback or has a friend who has because it's infanitly easier to use in a gaming session.

Printing desired parts can be the solution (expensive), but I still prefer paperback (try to read novel from PC, very funny) and having PDFs with all my stuff on broken PC without some copy at hand is more than just a little problem.

Actually, a couple people in my gaming group use the PDFs. The GM being one of them. While he does still bring a couple of the main books along with him, he mostly uses the PDFs to find stuff. Given that most of them are now searchable, he finds it a lot easier to find things now. Not to mention it takes all that extra weight off his back that he would otherwise be carrying around were he to bring all the books that he uses for the games.

A GM hiding behind a computer...not sure if that would work for my group, they seem to like the idea that the GM is seen and not using a computer to help him out. Call us old fashion but if the GM is looking things up as he goes along then he didn't plan things out and the secession is poorly run. Or so has been the experience of myself and several of the memebers of my group of BT players.
The idea of having the books there with you means a new person can look at them and thumb through them while things move on in the story and not need a cord and a socket and all that goes with a laptop or desktop computer. Seems to lack the personal touch and committment if the GM spends time looking up something then just going with things and using his own imagintion.
So let me ask this, does your GM allow the players to stop in mid secession and look things up as well if they disagree with his ruling via HIS computer with the PDF?

Just join BattleCorps and you can pay to get them once you join.

Joining the Corps (and paying for it) just to be able to pay for something else, sounds even more twisted than my jokes sometimes.
|
|
When you pay to join BattleCorps you get the stories for free.
You can purchase the stories that appeared before you signed up, but you don't have to.

In my game players are responsible for having the game materials themselves. If they disagree with my rulings they have 30 seconds to find where I'm wrong or we move on.
In +25 years of playing we only had one person who took issue with that policy and he stormed out about 15 years ago...he's since been thrown out of every game group he's joined.

Given the amount of books and other assorted paperwork that he was required to carry around and deal with for our games before, he most certainly prefers carrying his laptop instead. He still brings the main essentials as far as the books go though. And he allows the players to look check in whatever books or pdfs they might have as well. He doesn't hide behind the computer and rely on it to play the game. Our group is pretty loose during our games. We're just constantly doing all sorts of different things both, during and after the games, so he just likes to be prepared. Most of the time, he just uses it to keep track of initiatives and what not, since there's usually a lot to keep track of during our games. It has more uses than simply checking rules.
