That would slow down the game terribley. Your average gamer does not want to sit around with 20 pairs of 6 sided dice trying to resolve missile hits.
The idea of using thunderbolts would speed up the game, but then there is no difference game-wise between a gun and a missile. That simplification reduces tactical complexity, which is not wanted. Btech's missiles need an outright overhaul.

Think about the **** rocket launchers for a second. Then apply the firing rules from those suckers to the regular missiles with the difference being that the missiles can reload each round.
That's what I was trying to say.

Pidge is the FanPro commando for the area; PM him on CBT. Or send me a list of the names (with a post saying that they were sent) and I'll see what we can do.

Simplification ideas.
1) Drop heat or not allow overheating

| I proposed that for L1 games only mechs designated as heat balanced should be used, thus the heat scale can be ignored without disturbing the balance of the game.
|
| Even MW keeps the heat for BattleMechs as it is necessary for the right flavor of piloting a BattleMech.

True. The dial method makes heat less of a chore. Unfortunately Battletech does not support that.

| You mean the CBT variant of BattleTech !
For me games like MechWarrior, AeroTech, BattleTroops, ... are BattleTech too !

BattleTech is still BattleTech, the other is called Mechwarrior.
A person could develope a simplified version of the heat scale similar to MW.

Correct, someone could develop a new heat system. And if others wanted to use it, it would be level 3 rules and perfectly valid. That's the glory of the system. Don't like something, change it. You just better know how to use the original system for tourney or con play. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I don't know what the fuss about heat is, I find the complexities associated with Level 2 tech far more time consuming

That's also choking the game, Mordel. Without a set of universal rules that attract the mass market Btech will probably die off sooner than later, and will never be a leading game system again.

Such as?
Surely those rules could be streamlined too.

There is a "universal" set of rules, and they have been published in a book called Battletech Master Rules, revised edition.

I know. Its in the "attracting the mass market" where that set of rules fails. I am not saying we should do away with those rules, but that a simplified or redone set could be released to attract players who are not as into sheets and accounting. The problem with making them L3 is that L3 builds on L2, its not independent or universal.

Call them L0 since it is simplified play...I am unsure how you are going to complete ditch the recordsheets...
