OVERVIEW:
The Trojan is, to say the least, a unique step in the evolution of Battlemech Combat. When the Clans first invaded Davion units were nowhere to be found, as their sector of space wasn't under assault. Many mercenaries were hurled into the fray, and, by the time Davion forces had arrived in any real number, the conflict had paused. One of the things that most shook the nerve of Mechwarriors from the frontline were the Elementals, armored infantry deployed alongside their Mech escourts.
The concept piqued the intrest of Davion researchers, not for how to deal with the threat, but, rather, how such a threat could be duplicated with existing technology. BattleArmor was, at the time, beyond them, so they set about doing the next best thing. They went about designing a mech which could serve as an infantry transport itself.
Over the next decade, budget cuts and R&D restructuring of funding put the Trojan on the back burner, and the project was all but lost when the Federated Suns were able to engineer their own battle armor. Now, having 'hitchhikers', rather than needing complex internal life support systems, the idea of an infantry-support mech was all but abandoned.
Bureaucratic inertia, however, saved the Trojan, and, in 3063, the first production model rolled off the line, being sent not to elite Mech cadres, but, instead, to serve alongside commando squads of infantry. The Trojan was to be part of the new 'COmbined Arms' concept of warfare, but not a terribly major part.

CAPABILITIES:
While well-armed and, for its size, well-armored, the Trojan is painfully slow for a light mech, and they don't come much smaller. Thanks to the assorted budget reductions, the Trojan is further contructed by virtual leftover parts, with corners cut at every turn. The one thing it has to stand out from the crowd, in fact, is the one truly unique feature that lead to the design: The Infantry Carrier.
Situated in the right torso, shielded by the thickest possible armor, and entered by the rear facing of the mech, the infantry carrier is tied to the Trojan's amplified life support system, seating a single squad of men in relative comfort, depending on their gear. Seating is padded and fit with shock absorbers, so that the jarring steps of the mech are reduced on passengers. Manual door overrides are present, as well as an emergency escape hatch below, in the manner of a Spider.
For weapns, the Trojan sports the traditional light mech weapon of choice, the Medium Laser, is listed as teh primary weapon, but is actually an anti-mech weapon added only due to pressure from above. The true primary weapon of teh Trojan is the SperryBrowning machine gun, used to pin down enemy infantry while the Trojan deploys its own manpower. The Holly Derringer two-pack serves as a cleanup hitter, being equally effective against armor, mechs, and men.

DEPLOYMENT:
Assignment to a Trojan is a step above the dispossessed, but not by much. Mechwarriors see it as an insult to their skill, as if they couldn't operate without infantry, *infantry* at their side. Infantry so assigned are also unhappy, thusfar, as the unusual arrangement singles them out amoung other troopers, never a good thing, and infects them with a similar feeling of inadequacy.
Davion high command has been attempting to overcome this psychological aspect as best they can, but, compared to other problems within the military, it isn't being given the attention that it deserves. Surprisingly, once the unusual nature of the combination is understood and worked with, many have felt that this may, in fact, be the future of combined arms operations.
While general infantry populations have little need of a Trojan, commandos and special operations teams, including engineers, have found it refreshing. With a Mech's ability to be dropped from orbit, clamber through any environment at great speed, even underwater or in airless environmnets, and deliver their cargo unharmed, the troopers quickly become spoiled. Having a ten metre high backup for your operations, fully able to punch its way through solid walls or strafe the opposition force, which can then pick the men up, store them in cool, bullet-proof safety, and jump away, quickly becomes a tactical advantage that is unmatched in the inner sphere.

Crud.

So much for cut n paste directly from Word Perfect.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get something posted here that's readable.

You should see the Word Perfect file. It's *way* pretty. This is dirt.

I like this design. By any chance did you read my last Liao mech? I think its ammusing that they both can be combat infantry carriers (so its not original!)

Also, did you know that there is a quad mech called the Trojan Horse that has a full platoon of infantry in one of its torsos??? its true! Its on the TR: LEGENDS page. I can post the URL if you're interested. Thats FASA official too (well deceased and no longer supported, but it WAS used in a FASA product making it tournament legal).

Just my two cents. I give it four feathers, cause I've already created something like it, though mine was an ICE mech

Not seen either yours or the 'Battletech Legend' one. I'm a bit leery of the latter, mind you. I seem to recall a 'Hawk' mech in there that had a sonic blaster that did a pointo f damage to a mech's pilot every time it hit...

I don't know that one. I've been through most of the Hawks, as it is my all time favorite mech. Go back and look for a mech which begins with a P and has a really long name and number.
